Poor Idle, CEL on, oil in intake plenum
I've been experiencing some niggly bug I just can't track down that causes my 2.2L 99 Impreza Outback Sport to idle roughly at too low an RPM. The CEL came on and points to the purge solenoid valve so I replaced it to no avail - the code still points to the same valve although it tests out perfectly. I also have oil in the intake plenum before the throttle body, apparently drawn up from the crank case breather. PCV Valve checks out OK. The car will also hesitate part way through acceleration and then "catch" again after a short duration. I cannot find a vacuum leak for the life of me.
Has anyone experienced this or has some advice on where to look? Any help would be appreciated.

If it's still saying the canister purge solenoid.......that's where I'd look.
Did you actually replace the valve with a new one, or just cleaned your existing valve? If it was a new one, it's possible you got a defunk valve. Have you replaced anything lately, done any work, etc? Other thought is replace the PCV valve. Some say you should get a SOA one....and the aftermarket ones can allow too much vacuum in the PCV system and suck the oil out of the breathers.......I can't say I have necessarily seen this, but I guess it's possible. Anyone else had this? I'm suddenly getting the same kind of low rpm (1,500) problem but only after filling up with gas. No CEL and it clears up after a while. A/F seems lean during this time too. I checked all vacuum lines I can find and T'd a vacuum gauge onto the purge canister vac line. It does its erratic thing and mostly doesn't cause a problem. Haven't filled up with gas during this test period but just opening the gas cap doesn't seem to trigger it. Weird.
