First time at Crystal today. Might be the only time I make it up this season, so couldn't have asked for a better day! Here's a photo my friend took...

No fresh dumps means we gotta venture out further.
Did some more slacklines yesterday. Rode our "highway" line from the resort and ended up a few miles out of the resort. Hiked for a bit on the highway until we were picked up and rode in the back of a truck. Pow lines were sick, had a good time. p.s. Forgot my boots yesterday so I picked up a set at the resort that are now for sale (rentals suck and these are just a tad small for me). Burton Rulers, size: 9.5. Paid $200, I'd like to get about $150 for them. I'll consider offers. Last edited by angrychicken; 01-03-2013 at 04:03 PM. |

This video is scary, not so much that someone was buried (which is scary), but the chaotic mess that ensues with the search party. The fact that people had to be told to turn their beacons to search so they don't interfere with the searching beacons terrifies me. Thank god everything turns out ok.
I know it would be a pain and receive allot of backlash from skiers and snowboarders.. but I think there needs to be mandatory backcountry/avy licence to be able to be in areas like this (with heavy fines for those without). There are too many people that have the gear with little knowledge of how to use it and/or what to do when it's needed. |

Scary stuff. Be safe out there.
This is a terrific piece from the New York Times on the avalanche at Stevens Pass a while back. Link to article. |

Just got back from Whistler. No new snow until we left this morning, but it was still lots of fun. Temps were super cold so the snow held up and didn't get real icy until yesterday. finished a couple days with the Peak to Creek trail. Helluva leg burner but fun to be able to get almost 5k vertical in a single run. My last hours riding were pretty awesome started at the top of Glacier Express at Blackcomb down to Arthurs Choice and down to Excelerator Express. Over to Jersey Cream chair, crossover on the Peak 2 Peak gondola, hop on the Peak chair for one last run down to Creekside. It's pretty neat to look at the map and see that we went pretty much coast to coast on the resort.
I think the only thing that Creekside has going for it is Dustys and Garage parking. I didn't mind staying on that side, but I don't think I'll be doing it again. We ended up having to drive whenever we wanted to do something. Here's a pic looking back up at Symphony chair. I'd never been in that area before, I'd really love to get back up there on a pow day. Lots of potential for epicness. -joel |

On another note, I'm taking my Level 1 avy course this coming weekend with Northwest Mountain Guides out of Leavenworth. Should be an interesting weekend for field observations with the surface hoar that developed last week and a variety of snow/rain/sleet through this week. |

SOOO I finally scored my higher end light wide 164ish board! I grabbed a 165 Skunk Ape But... After mounting it up, thinking it looked funny, and measuring it and talking with Lib tech technical dude Chris it was determined that this was a Friday 4:45 board: the core was laid in backwards- so the 0.5'' set back is a 0.5'' set forward. I can still get my everyday normal stance even with the holes being an inch from normal, but If I want to set it wayyy back for the deepest pow I will have to ride it backwards. Not the best solution but Lib is also offering me 45% off for my next board. Banana power! |

Yeah the core profile is symmetrical, and the nose is supposedly bigger than the tail but I can't tell from looking at it. This board rips though, carves like a beast.

Did you buy it used? I would think they would offer to replace it if it was new. Sweet board none the less.

Yeah they gave me a couple options. Send it back for replacement, or ride it and get a coupon for 45%.

Current views while shredding in AK. Did a 9-10 mile hike yesterday. Everywhere view here puts me in awe. It's crazy how mountains drop right into the sea. Some gnarly looking scenery. |
