Default good street pads?

Hey guys, I was hoping you could help me decide on some good street brake pads. I never track the car (maybe 1/4 drag strip once a year, no autox or anything), and it is my dd, but I do still like a little spirited driving on the streets.

I would prefer a quiet, low dust pad that actually brakes better than generic auto parts store branded pads, but have no idea where to begin.

I do not need some super duper pads that would be useful in autox, and dont really want to sacrifice pad life for super braking ability.

Plz help me decide here lol

I've looked into it quite a bit, in your same position, and I'm going with stoptech street pads. They're half the price, and I've heard much better things about them than other popular brands like hawk.. (Even from people who have switched from hawk pads)..

And again, they're half the price. Win win...

Go to rallysportdirect.com, put in your vehicle, look for brakes and then read reviews.

Go to knsbrakes.com. Call them ask for advice. A great vendor that knows brakes and decent prices

Accept brake dust. I have with my stoptechs.

the stoptech street performance pads are really hard to beat from a price/performance point

+1 to Stoptech street performance.
wonderful cold braking, not bad on the track, not too aggressive for brake discs, do not squeak. but dusty, which I do not care at all.

Another stoptech user here. Work great but dusty. Seems to be the general consensus.

From your criteria for low dust and mild spirited street driving, I'd go with Stoptech/Centric PosiQuiet pads. They're super-cheap too. The only thing is they make different formulations. Semi-metallic and ceramic, depending on application. I'd go with semi-metallic if possible, I've had ceramic pads before and didn't like their lack of bite and feel.

I have the Stoptech Street Performance which are great pads but they dust like crazy and don't seem to last long. I've only got around 6K miles on them and it looks like I'll only get another 6-9K out of them. I'm going to give the PosiQuiets a try when my current pads wear out.

I recently installed a set of Project MU NS 400 pads and really like them.

Their cold bite is really good and they don't make any noise. I can't really comment on the dust because of my gunmetal wheels, but they seem to be on par with the stock pads.

They're slighty more expensive than the Stop Techs, but still a pretty good price.

If the Stop Techs dont last that long, i'd probably want to go a different route.

i just replaced mine....the rears had ~40k on 'em and the fronts had ~50k

they were still good...the rears likely woulda gone another 30k...the fronts another 10-15k

i do a lot of highway driving...but i dont drive like grandma and i DO beat the brakes up at times

i have only heard them squeek a bit when backing up quickly and applying the brakes...other than that...they have been pleasantly silent

So StopTech creates more dust than Hawk?

I've always had Hawk, and haven't found a better break pad.

Street Performance dusts slightly less than the Hawk HPS (which isn't saying much) and performs far better overall.

Stoptech Street Performance > Hawk HPS

I haven't noticed Hawk HPS giving a lot of dust?? I've got the regular 06 wrx rims, as well as a set off 2011 WRX, and neither have become "dusted"?

another downside for stoptech street performnace: after car wash, try to heat brakes before park the car. either way you will have pad material glued on the brake disc. it needs some force from the car to break this connection and then pads have some kind scratching effect for not a little milage

sorry for bad English ))

I guess Ill give the Stoptech's a try until I found something else later.

When it comes time for rotors, are Brembo slotted rotors worth it over Brembo blanks?
Also, are the Goodridge stainless brake lines good, or would you suggest others?

Check out dba rotors as these r really good and can even get 2 piece front rotor.
Yes the Goodridge stainless brake lines r very nice and not to expensive.

For the price u can't beat stop tech but I've found the ferrodo ds2500's for street and track work excellent besides the excessive brake dust.

Power Slot slotted rotors for me. They're great imo. Haven't had one problem with them, and they've maintained well for awhile now

and too bad the 2500's cost 3x or 4x what the stoptechs cost for both ends

ive run a good few pads in the last 20 years...and the stoptechs are a really good value for a high performance street pad

If dust is a huge concern I would go with Posi Quiets as somebody else mentioned. That said, my personal choice for a road car would be the StopTech street performance pads. They are excellent for daily/spirited driver, and perform well above their price point.

As for rotors I would go with Centric slotted (Powerslot) rotors on the budget end, or DBA 4000 T-slots if you have a little more in the budget. Get some fresh Motul in there as well.
