Thumbs up Volunteers are needed for the Wild West International Performance Rally on September

Volunteers are needed for the Wild West International Performance Rally on September 7 & 8, 2002. No experience is needed.

The Wild West International Rally is a two day Performance Rally hosted by Northwest Region SCCA. The 2002 Wild West Rally is round 9 of 10 for the SCCA PRORally Championship, round 5 of 7 for the 2002 Championship of North America Rallies, and includes the NWR Sou’Wester and Simpson Stages ClubRallies. Jobs range from assistance with event setup and other miscellaneous tasks prior to the event to special stage (racing section)operations.

The most common job is that of Road Marshal. A road marshal is expected to park their vehicle on a side road which intersects the stage and ensure that no vehicle enters the race course. Essentially each road marshal has their own spectator area.

All volunteers will be given Wild West T-shirts and are invited to the awards banquet following the event, free of charge.

Anyone wishing to volunteer should contact John Nispel at:
[email protected] or 360 357-3207 Be sure to include your e-mail
address, phone numbers (home, work & cell), what days you would be available and your shirt size.

A description of performance rally follows:

What is Performance Rally?
Sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA), PERFORMANCE RALLY is a thrilling and unique form of motor sports. REAL CARS (street legal production based cars, with roll cages and other safety requirements) compete in different classes, from Production (stock) to Open (anything goes). REAL ROADS start on “transits” (public road sections driven at legal
speeds) which link the real racing on “special stage” roads (timed sections of controlled gravel roads winding up and down mountain forests). A rally weekend can traverse 300 miles, including over 130 stage miles. REAL FAST is the speed of these cars on the special stages, averaging 40-50 mph, with
top speeds reaching over 100 mph on tree lined gravel roads.

Performance Rally is unlike any other form of racing you've seen before!

Where can I see Performance Rally?
The Wild West Rally will be in Thurston, Mason and Grays Harbor Counties, centered around Shelton, Washington, “Gateway to the Olympics”, on September 7th and 8th, 2002.

Special stages use Simpson Resource Company’s scenic forest roads. For an opportunity to meet the teams and see the cars up close, attend the exhibition (parc expose) each morning. And to see the cars racing on stage, visit the fantastic public spectating locations listed on the back of this page. One of the best ways to get real close to the action and learn more about the sport is to help as a corner marshal. These enthusiastic volunteers receive training and get to watch the event from some of the best viewing points on the special stages. A rally requires many volunteers, including medics, ham radio operators, time control workers, and many others, so please volunteer if you'd like to help. Learn more about the Northwest Region of the SCCA and performance rally on-line at http://www.nwr scca.org/rally/info.html . Visit the official Wild West Web page at http://www.nwr-scca.org/rally/wildwest.html for updated schedules and event information.

Anyone wishing to volunteer should contact John Nispel at:
[email protected] or 360 357-3207 Be sure to include your e-mail address, phone numbers (home, work & cell), what days you would be available and your shirt size.

Zhoo want to work? Let me know. I'll get zhoo da hook-up.

I'm working ATC apparently. And this year NO-ONE GETS BY.

That means none of that "oh here's something we need everybody to sign" garbage at the last second, making me run up and down the line.

And ATTN: all racers - It's not my job to get you across the line on time. If you're stuck in line, get your co-driver out and tell him to find me. (on my stage only)

I dunno where I'm staying. Possibly at my parents (free, food, quiet).

The only problem with staying in a rally hotel is the racers are PARTY HOUNDS and they have to wake up a lot earlier than the volunteers, for the most part.

Yes they are.

Another cheap place to stay is in the back of your car. Even better if you have a wagon

I'm sorry, but you're absolutely insane.

It sounds interesting, but school will have started by then. Although I wouldn't mind if you could snag me some free stuff while you're up there. j/k

I'll track you down! Beaverton people gotta stick together! It's a hard knock suburban life.

What info do you guys need?

Here's what I've got so far

Quote:

Saturday: ORV Park Special Stage - First Car Out at 11:13 AM. I'll need Start and Finish HAMS, ATC, START, FLYING FINISH and STOP CONTROL crews there by 9:15 AM. All ROAD MARSHALLS can come and watch the first 30 cars or so, and then beat feet up to Shelton to meet JERRY and get in position for our next stage.

Saturday: BINGHAM TRESTLE Stage - First Car Out at 5:15 PM. All ROAD MARSHALLS and on-stage HAMS will meet JERRY at the SIMPSON log sort yard at 1:30 PM to get signed in, get T-Shirts, and get on stage at designated locations. Start and Finish HAMS, ATC, START, FLYING FINISH and STOP CONTROL crews will leave the ORV Park and get to their positions as soon as the ORV Stage is completed.

Sunday: MASON LAKES Stage - First Car Out at 12:06 PM. We will all meet at the finish end, which is at about mile marker 6 on the McReavy Road in Shelton at 10 AM and be set up and ready to roll by 11 - no sweat!!

Sunday, after the rally: Awards Banquet, etc. at the LITTLE CREEK CASINO, dinner starts at about 5. We'll all be able to be there!!! And we should all be able to catch the flying finish end of the Taylor Towne stage (Elson Mystery) or maybe the spectator spot on the Dayton stage before dinner.
And then there's this rally.doc that I haven't read yet so I don't know what's in it.

Default Did you volunteer??

Hornblower, I was told that I would get the following information,

"I'll let you know where & when to meet your stage captain in the next week or so."

It would be nice to know who to contac, and where I'll be stationed, but then maybe I'm just a little early. That e-mail was sent to me on the 14th.

You should email Greg Liukko or Diane Duran and find out.

Did you tell anybody what T-shirt size you want?

Well, it doesn't have a name attached to it, but the e-mail came from [email protected] . Looking at the first post, that would be John Nispel. Yea Hornblower, I gave him all the info requested in the first post, abit it took 3 e-mails to do it, I was that excited.

[email protected] - Diane Duran. She'll let you know if/where she needs people.

[email protected] - Greg Liukko. Also somebody you might try. I don't know if they're running different stages or not.

If you haven't worked a rally before tell them I sent you (nick snow) and this is your first and could you please get put someplace really neat.

Thanks Nick, but it might get confusing if I get 3 or more people trying to do that same thing. I'm sure that John will get back with me, I'm just a little anxious. Not my first rally, but then my last one was probably before you were born, back in 1968.

Default Got E-mail

Got my e-mails late last night, now I have my contact points. I'll be working with Diane Duran on Saturday and Steve McQuaid on Sunday. Getting more pysch'd everyday. My only wish is that I'll have my Rx done in time, bt it appears doubtful. I might get it running this weekend, but then I'll need some fine tuning.
