![]() I have the new 2008 WRX STI and found that the BLuetooth mic did not come with the car. SO I had the Dealer order the part. After 5 weeks it came in and I laughed once I saw it. $198 for a 3 wire connection with mic that mounts on stearing column. I looked at the instructions and pin outs. It connects up to the back of the radio to 3 pins and that is it.
So I returned and said no thanks. I went out and bought a $10.00 computer mic from Wal-Mart and $1.99 9 Pin Computer Female adapter from Radio Shack that you put together. I just needed it for the small female pin outs. Since the back of the radio has the Male Pins. ![]() The connector on the back is the black one almost in the middle/center right.. next to the little white one. 5 Male Pins are in it. ![]() ![]() The Mic has two wires (Positive & Negative) You need to splice a second Negative Ground off the Mics Original Ground. To make Two Ground and One Positive Mic Wire. Look at the Subaru Bluetooth Connector picture and instruction pics above. Looking at the back of the radio at the connector the pins go from left to right. 1 2 3 4 5 G OO G P G = Ground O = Open P = Positive I used the gold Pins from the Radio Shack connector on the ends of the Mic wires so that way they would slide over the Pins in the connector on the back of the radio since I did not have the actual connector to plug into the radio. I would rather make a cheap $12.00 connection then pay $198 for the actual Subaru Part. Once you make these connections then the Bluetooth Phone options will show up on the radio. I have setup my bluetooth phone and use it all the time now. I ran the Mic wire down the Driver side from the visor in the Window Column for the airbag. Just pop out the AIRBAG TAG and remove bolt. The cover comes right off. Happy Bluetoothing!! Last edited by maxfiles25; 04-09-2008 at 03:23 PM. |

![]() How in the hell do I remove the stock tape deck in my 99 OBS? Do I need a DIN tool or is it like the firstgen WRX deck?
I can't seem to find any information on this anywhere. |

![]() See discussion about aftermarket microphones here.
If you can find this, the Kenwood KNA-VC300 microphone has the correct 5-pin plug needed. I'll bet the mic works without any modification. This part does include a push-to-talk (or 'start voice recognition') switch. I don't know if the Impreza/Forester Navi will do anything with that (though the OEM mic does include a 2-pin socket wired to the same pins on the 5-pin plug as the VC300's pushbutton). Picture on Crutchfield's site (item discontinued): Kenwood's installation manual: http://www.kenwoodusa.com/UserFiles/.../KNA-VC300.pdf Subaru's installation instructions for the 2008 OEM mic kit (P/N H0018FG300). These kinds of 2-wire mics will not work for the Subaru 2011 OEM Kenwood Navi (and the 2008-2010 Navi HUs will not work with the 2011 Impreza and Forester OEM mics). Quote:
The pins look like this:

![]() Hi all,
I have a '02 Forester with a 6 - Disk CD changer in it. It's the stock from subaru. Reading some threads on this site from a few years ago, it seems this was already addressed but never finished. I was wondering if anyone ever got this finish? The topic is the 16 pin connector on the back of the radio and how to hook this up to an aux input (i.e. my ipod). The connector looks like this: ![]() It's the one of the far left. I found the pin-out for it: ![]() Reading other forms, it seems that you have to some how "trick" the radio into thinking that you are the external cd changer (why you would want an external cd changer on a radio with a 6 disk cd changer, i don't know). Here are the links to the forms reguarding this topic: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4610 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=691652 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=119963 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...40&postcount=7 Any information on this would be greatly appreciated ![]() Thanks. |

![]() This is correct:
I just used the Female Pins that went into the DB9 Connector and attached them to the end of the mic wires. Could not use the connector itself. |

![]() ok i have a newbie queastion about the wiring connecter. im putting a DVD player in my 02 and i seem to be having a hard time finding the wiring connecter that will allow me to hook it up to the factory harness. i cant find one anywhere for subaru. crutchfield says a saab, subaru, suzuki 95+ will all work. however, i can find GM adapters that have suzuki listed, but not that other two, think this will work? i guess as long as its the same as the 14 pin it should work i guess. or i could try an audio specialty store...

![]() Car audio specialty store, or even best buy or circuit city will sell them to you. Might not be on the shelf, but you can tell them what car you have and they should be able to grab you one that will work.

Some Saabs are built on Subaru chassis (Google "Saabaru"), so I guess they use the same harnesses. I hadn't heard that any Suzukis used the same one as Subarus. But I have no doubt that most other Saabs and Suzukis use something completely different. You want a harness that fits Subarus from 1995 to 2007. The label on the package may only say a subset of that range. But yes, if it says it's for a Subaru and has 14 pin positions it will fit. You can also find one here. Sweet. So the 2008 WRX Non-Navi HU is not "plug and play" with the old style Subwoofer... but the HU with the Navi is? Eesh. Should have got that Navigation unit installed. So can you guide me to a link which would allow me to install an old style subwoofer with T-Harness onto a Non-Navi 2008 Head Unit? Thanks! |

![]() Hey all, I have an 05 wagon. A while ago (few months), while I was playing a CD-R, my CD player suddenly stopped playing, and the timer just stayed at the point in time when the song stopped. I tried to turn it off, then on again but, it wouldn't even display the timer. Now, nothing relating to the CD components will do anything, including the skip, random, eject, load. I can go into the CD mode, but it won't do or display anything. The number of CDs will still be displayed at the very top, however. I've tried pulling the fuse; it didn't work.
I've also tried searching...it seems like it's a mechanical cd loader failure??? ![]() Last edited by fizay; 05-14-2008 at 05:01 PM. |

Just reinstalled the factory 6-disc changer after taking out my Alpine HU. (Selling the car) The radio works fine however if I press CD, it will not play or give any errors, just ignores the button press. The same goes for the load and eject buttons. There are some CDs already in there from before I uninstalled it. Any thoughts? |

![]() newbie question, but i can't find a clear cut answer, perhaps i'm too dumb, so please be gentle.
i have an 03 wrx wagon, just got a new dvd player. i'm replacing the stock 6 disk, i just found out i have the factory subwoofer. if i simply disconnect the subwoofer harness between the standard harness will everything work fine? i know on my fords i had to bypass factory amps to not blow anything and i plan on putting in aftermarket amp and sub anyways. so condensed version, if i simply don't use the OEM subwoofer harness will everything still work fine? ~Alex |

![]() Yes, you can just unplug the whole thing, but then you will lose your GLORIOUS sub! You could also leave it in and just hook to that harness and retain your sub, depends on where your audio is going...

![]() Hello all,
I am installing an aftermarket H/U into my mother's '04 L.L. Bean Outback (Flat six with VTD tranny). This car has the 6 CD Changer, stock sub and stock tweeters. The Panasonic CD changer keeps jamming on us, so she just wants a simple double din H/U with 1 CD. I know that I am supposed to search before posting, and believe me I spent a good two hours in this thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=749402 trying to find the pinout for this specific H/U, but they all vary slightly from what we have. Heres what I have on my square 8 pin subwoofer connector looking straight on (The side that doesn't have the wires coming out of it) reading it like a book. Pin 1: Light Green Pin 2: Black /w Yellow stripe Pin 3: NC Pin 4: Red /w Green stripe Pin 5: Green /w White stripe Pin 6: NC Pin 7: NC Pin 8: Black /w White stripe What I have on the new H/U is two banana plugs (White and Red) that are labeled "Subwoofer". What I was hoping I could do was take the two banana plugs, tee them together, and solder them into the "Subwoofer +" and take the "Subwoofer -" and give it a metallic ground rather than grounding it through the H/U. What I need to know is... which wire is + and which is -. I hope I have given enough information, let me know if you need more. Thanks in advance for any and all information. Shawn |
