SE TANGERINE ORANGE STI ATTACKS BUTTONWILLOW RACEWAY | FEATURING APEX EC-7 WHEELS
Prior to COVID-19 shaking up the world, one of our photographers met up with Eric (@tangerine_sti) and his dual-duty 2013 special edition STI at Buttonwillow Raceway for a Turn 8 Track Days event. This Tangerine Orange STI is 1 of 100 special editions produced (200 more WRX's were produced as well), and it photographed beautifully throughout the day as we followed Eric through his initial tech inspections, staging on grid, and then full send out on track.
Beyond the unique paint code, this well-prepared STI features a set of APEX 18×9.5" ET38 EC-7 wheels in our Satin Black finish which really looks at home on this car by tying in the black graphics and added carbon bits. While a majority of enthusiasts choose to mount 255 or 265mm wide tires on 9.5" wheels, anything from a stock 245/40-18 to a wide 285/30-18 r-comp or race slick can be mounted which makes it quite a versatile wheel width for 2008+ WRX/STI chassis.
Lightweight and durable 18" wheels in a chassis specific width and offset is one of the key modifications WRX/STI track enthusiasts like Eric, as well as W2W and time attack racers, count on for maximizing performance, reducing rotational mass, and mitigating the seasonal budget. The EC-7 wheel design was engineered with massive brake clearance in mind, providing plenty of brake clearance for all of the factory Brembo BBK's so spacers aren't necessary.
