Thanks for posting the additional close-ups!

Three of the pins have to be ground/left/right.

As for the extra two wires, I wonder if they're just looped together at the ashtray box, to tell the radio to enable AUX mode (otherwise the CD/AUX button will only switch to CD)? Or might be +12V and ground to power an iPod (not supported on the box you have).

Could you perhaps use a meter to check the pinout all the way out to the audio jack? Then see if either of my guesses are right about the leftover pins.

ADDED: Source for OEM interconnect harness found!
dajohnson53 found that the harness is sold as a replacement part from Clarion (the HU manufacturer).

Details in his post here (#323 in that thread). Also see my reply after that.

I think I remember pressing the CD/AUX button while nothing was hooked into the Aux port, and I think it just stayed in CD mode. So I think your guess on the loop continuity check is right. Perhaps someone who still has their 07 stock stereo installed can check. Otherwise I can look for my multimeter to check. Now, if I can remember where I last left it...

I found my meter, and I checked the pins in the connector to the ashtray aux port. Without anything plugged into the front, the circled pins aren't connected. Once something is plugged in, then the circuit was completed. So, it must be a signal to the radio that something is plugged in the aux port as you had guessed.

Hope this helps!

Are you saying that you want to replace the OEM radio in your '07 Forester with an after-market radio?

The rear of this new OEM HU looks like this (click to see larger image)...

The radio harness in the car still looks like this...
(same as it's been for years, with the exact same pin-out).

To install an after-market HU, you'll want the matching 14-pin wiring adapter (or "forward" harness). It's the standard one for 1995-up Subarus.

For what its worth, the aux box does not fit properly in the tray of an 2005 wagon dash. It fits, and fits perfectly, but does not have the extra plastic on the top of the ashtray section which the aux unit plugs into. I havent figured a good way yet to make it "stay put" without glue or the like.

The way the aux box locks into the slot is by a metal clip. I think it looks like the clip on a garage door opener. I had to slide it out in order to pull out the aux box. I'm guessing your model has a little hole at the top of the ashtray slot with some sort of locking clip to prevent the ashtray from simply sliding all the way out? You probably need something similar to this.

Default Aux Input part # for 2007 CD Changer

The Part# for the aux input that goes in the ashtray is 86257SA010. However, I can't find the part number of the Cable that goes from the aux input to the back of the HU. Can anyone help with that?

Wow, so the 07 headunits don't have rear outputs for the OEM subwoofer?

Right. The subwoofer in a 2007 will use the "old style" T-harness, like on 2004 and earlier -- where it T's off of the radio's main 14-pin speaker/power connector.

Default Aux Input 2007 CD Changer

I think I have figured out how to make a cable that would plug in to the aux in on a 2007 CD Changer and have stereo RCAs. I just need to find the connecter. Apparently it is a i85 connecter. I could use more info on who makes these connecters and where I can get them. Any help would be appreciated.

I am attempting to install an 07 HU with the AUX in my 04 forester. I have the radio but need the harness from the AUX. Has anyone come up with a solution other than the factory harness or does anyone have a spare harness after an aftermarket HD install?

Also, my forester has the sub in the cargo area and the 04 HD had the sub output. I read about a t-harness. I think 07 foresters have the same sub so they must use this t-harness. Any leads (no pun intended)?

The horizontal spacing between pins appears to be 0.1" which is common in computer stuff. Unfortunately the spacing between rows appears to be 0.125". But you could get two 2-pin female connectors to access the 4 pins you need. See link below for the pin-out. The Aux enable pin should be connected to the outside case of the radio (not to aux signal ground)

Your '04 sub is a plain, unpowered speaker. Your factory head unit has a 5th channel output for the sub.

The 2007 OEM HUs do not have a sub output. [CORRECTION: Some (but not all) 2007 models do. Sorry.]

If 2007 Foresters still have a plain speaker in the rear (not a powered unit that sits underneath either the driver's or front passenger's seat), then the car must have an amp somewhere. [CORRECTION: I was wrong. Some 2007 Forester HUs still have a 5th channel powered subwoofer output]

The T-harnesses that we've been talking about in earlier posts above are only used with the powered underseat subs.

See this thread for more info and pics that may help:
Stock head unit information -- pin-outs, subwoofer, aux inputs, and more
In any case, you would need a single-channel sub amp to drive your sub. The input to the amp would come from one or more of the speaker outputs. Ideally you'd want to find an amp that takes 2 speaker level inputs, does a low-pass filter, sums them, and provides a single subwoofer output.

Always something. Thanks a lot.

*THe forester owner I bought this from says that the 07 sub was run directly off the HU. He had his interior more or less gutted as part of an install and no amps were found.

I just installed an OEM 2007 MP3 player...works great!

My only question is how the heck to install the AUX ashtray input! I removed the ash tray, and tried to jam the whole thing in there...but it didnt fit! Is it supposed to fit in the stock ash-tray hole? Or do I have to buy a 2007 ash tray area part?

Yup! Took like 20 mins.....coulda been faster, but I had trouble taking the ground clip off the bracket. Then I realized I could just take the bracket off the old HU and keep the ground clip on
