hmmm no grill mentioned. does that mean you need to order it with the car? I'll be quite pissed if the mesh grill is not an option

Great info, Jon, thanks.

Disappointing that you can have -either- the sat radio adapter -or- an iPod interface installed, but not both. The sat radio antenna is also still a big eyesore stuck inside the windshield.

Um, you couldn't buy an iPod or receive a satellite radio broadcast prior to Dec, 2001. I'd like to see a list of car manufacturers who offer a radio which supports a connection from an iPod and supports your choice of satellite radio service.

Just because the iPod kit takes over the Satellite button while the iPod is docked doesn't mean the iPod kit is mutually exclusive with a satellite radio receiver when the iPod is undocked. Check out step 15 in the iPod kit install document:

Connect bus cable (E) to radio. Use the "Y" harness to reconnect any factory harness occupying the bus connector, when applicable.

Is there any way to get the Ipod interface kit to work on the Tribeca? Could it possibly be retrofitted onto the '06 Tribeca as well?

its quite disappointing that with a brand new car they still cant bring over CURRENT technology. As what someone else said, mos of the technology they are now adding came out in the 90s SOA really needs to step it up, SOJ has things like the smart key, HID's and even side marker lights. Its not like subaru doesnt have these technologies on hand, SOA just thinks america doesnt want it

not literally, but things like AUX inputs, sat radio, ipod interface... things that other car companies have been providing for a long time now.

my main beef is that they had a clean slate to work with with this new chassis. They could have added all the current tech yet they decided to nerf it and provide past tech. The biggest one is bluetooth, starting next year in cali, we cant talk on the phone while driving without some sort of handsfree device. Other cars come loaded compared to the new WRX... its really disappointing.

Being primarily a used car buyer, I've never researched Bluetooth and a lot of other options. What cars come loaded with these electro-goodies and still offer similar performance and price compared to the new WRX?

None. But if Subaru included these things and keep the price the same, there would be a more fully realized "must have" quality for their vehicles which would help make them much more profitable as a whole. I really don't know why we can't have value items such as HIDs, Nav (with Traffic info), Ipod Integration, Bluetooth, and more standard...

I lived in Japan from 82-84 and again from 90-92. Their traffic warning system was very advanced in their big cities. This is just what I saw 17 years ago. I mean HUGE video displays of a road map showing green for flowing traffic and red for near standstill. That way, you could choose alternate routes well ahead of time. In fact, the bus driver did just that at one point. So, I am sure the nav with traffic info they are using is something designed specifically for their system. Something we don't really have. SOA really needs to have more input from anyone other than whoever they are listening to now about what products America wants. You'd figure they would have learned with the WRX. What was it? Sold something like THREE times what they predicted in the first year?

How difficult is it to put on and remove roof racks like the ones that will be available for the 2008 WRX? I have never used ones like these before, and I like the convenience of roof racks, but think these kind are pretty fugly.
I would probably only use them two or three times a year, so would they be something that I could just put on for those few occasions and leave the car looking nicer for the rest of the time?

SPT rep at the Wicked Big Meet had an 08 WRX w/ Satellite w/ Ipod and Sirius. He had a custom toggle switch to go from one to the other. They were testing it w/ both.

According to him the stereo input for both devices is the same so that is why you cant have both.

so by custom, you mean home made... THIS is why subaru cannot sell as many cars as they want... they dont include things people want!!! they leave it up to the ingenuity of the few people who actually buy their cars to make it how the majority would have wanted it. I mean, if subaru included HID's as at least an option (although i think it should be STD on the WRX) it would make so many people happy due to properly adjusted and fitted HIDs instead of the cheapo eBAy "conversions." SOA really needs to listen to what people want, they seem to be so out of tune with culture, they're like the parent that just doesn't understand why certain things are popular and refuses to accept that they are out of the loop.

Well it was done by SPT to test the two systems in one car. But it wasnt set up for production. It used a toggle switch like you would find in an airplane.

Nothing out there is precisely analogous to the WRX, but cars like the new IS and TSX come somewhat close in price and fall short in performance. The new Infiniti sedan excels in performance, but at a higher price...

I think the biggest concern is in the next few years when the next gen Accords and other similar cars (Mazda 3?) come out. It seems fairly certain they will sports these features, with a similar price point and (at least power) as the WRX.

But they don't now, Subaru is giving first movers reason to upgrade to an 09/10 model.

I agree, they should include more as options at the very least, would be nice to see some of the tech gadgets make it in there though.
