Default Fender liner for wagons with rolled front fenders?

Hey - just a quick question I am hoping someone has some experience with.

Looking for someone who was in the same boat I am in - I rolled the front fenders a fair bit to accomodate big race tires on a wagon (the track is already wider with alu. control arms, so I had to roll the fronts as well as the rears). Anyway, the fender liner didn't really sit in as tight anymore - eventually at an event it came right out and I just cut it out - it was messed up at that point anyway.

So, for replacing, do I just get another wagon one and hope for the best, or would I be able to get a sedan one in there and it would fit better? Has anyone ever had the wagon and sedan fender liners side by side to compare them? If the sedan one is just a bit wider in spots, that would be pefect - not sure if it is too wide or a different shape in some places.

Thanks for the advice!

Great question! I am in the same boat and considering the same thing- rolled fenders, alu. control arms, etc. I haven't tried it yet so I can't help, but I'd definitely like to know.

oooookay
well my car is in the process of being completely swapped with 06 sti everything
i ran into a problem with fender liners a long time ago
the sedan fender liners are wider
but
you will need sedan fenders and front bumper to make them fit right
they are going to be about 20-30mm wider than your wagon liners
i hope that helps

Yeah, I can see how replacing fenders would certainly work, but that doesn't really help the "saving money" cause... If I had sedan/sti fenders, I wouldn't have had to roll them in the first place.

If no one has done this and responds soon, I will try to just get a sedan one and see if it fits, or maybe fits with some trimming. Then at least we will know for sure. I will keep you posted!

Default HDPE sheet for DIY finder liners

I'm in the same boat as you, but my wagon is a trailed race car so no worries about finder liners. Check this thread with links to videos and how the rally guys make their own fender liners out of plastic sheet http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1314397 THe sheet can be bought form McMaster Carr cheap or form the local dirt track shop in 1/8"Tx22'Wx10'L roll for $20 in six different colors or online http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/1557...itemNo=plastic THis stuff (HDPE or LDPE) is a lot more durable than than what the OE liners are made from. Can also be use for tons of other things; i.e. mug flaps, underbody protect or aerodynamics, ducting for air follow though FMIC and radiator, custom air boxes, guage panels, bumper repair, custom lips / spoilers etc.

hmm... Not sure i'd want to go to the trouble of making entire fender liners, but it would e simple to make an extension to the stock ones with this stuff, and a set of mud flaps too! Nice find.

So would it be possible to eliminate the liner completely and use a spray in bed liner or under coating on the back of the fender to protect it from dents from rocks and such.

Any one done this or something similar?

No. There's all kind of other crap underneath there, from wiring to seals etc etc... you need some type of liner to keep water off of that stuff. I guess you could get away with running no liner at all, but it's not a long term solution by any means.

Update - finally did this. I used a sedan liner and definitely had to trim it, but that was easy, and it fits in there quite well overall now. More snug than if I had used a wagon liner I think.
