Default DNX5160 installed in 2011 wrx

Threw in the Kenwood head unit with built in Garmin GPS yesterday, along with a pioneer amp and sub. Pretty straight forward.

The head unit by itself sounds loads better than stock HU. It is a lot cleaner. The 8" sub makes it sound even better and gives a really balanced sound.

They provide you with an adhesive metal plate that the gps antenna "sticks" to. I mounted the plate on top of the defrost vent pretty much right behind the clock/mpg display. It is underneath the plastic dash, but never has any trouble picking up satellites.

Any more details on stereo components - Amps, mids, subs, etc..? Been looking all over and Kenwood is catching my eye lately.

I kept the stock speakers. I'm not a super audiophile, but do enjoy my music and don't want crap for sound. The stock speakers with the Kenwood HU and pioneer sub sound good to me. My friends who work in car stereo recommended these products to me back when I had my 2.5i in 2008, so there may be better stuff on the market now in terms of sub/amp. The Kenwood still gets my vote with it's Garmin GPS. I also installed the optional iPod cord and it's pretty sweet to be able to watch movies from my iphone on the 6.1" screen.

The subwoofer is: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-SW841D-Shallow-Mount-Subwoofer-Watts/dp/B000TD900O
Can't remember the amp.

I haven't experimented with the bluetooth yet, but plan to eventually.

The media hub (aux/usb in the armrest) have what looks to be a proprietary adapter (both feed into the same cable I believe). I don't think it would be too terribly hard to split at least the audio signal off, but I'm not sure. The Kenwood HU has a/v in on the front, and with iPod cable I don't expect to need anything else.

Speaking of that cable, I found there is a little passageway by the cigarette lighter that works great to feed the cable from. It is a bit of a tight fit, but you can tuck the cable away back in that little area when not in use. I preferred this over a glove-box feed so I could have easier access to my iPhone.

I was thinking of mounting it on top of the dnx unit itself.

i installed a DNX5160 in my gf's 350z a few months ago. definitely a good deck. the bluetooth is ok, sometimes it's kind of hard to hear when she's on the highway.

It's better not to do that. The antenna's magnet is pretty strong and can cause problems in some HUs.

Also, getting it as high up as possible under the dash will help a little so it can "see" closer to the horizons.

Hey, I got a question regarding your install. I have a 2011 WRX and I want to put in a GPS unit and Sub. In terms of Subs, where did you put it in and how did it fit?

Im curious as to where you ran the power wire? Just under the sill plates to the rear? Did you have to pull out the rear interior panels to hide the wire or did you just run it under the backseat and into the trunk?
