![]() Anyone know how?
I'm trying to wire up an external amplifer, so if you could tell me how to get to the wiring harness or the back of the stock audio unit that would be great. Thanks. Dennis

![]() Boy... this sure was fun to get at...
First, pop open the cupholder and unscrew the two screws on both sides. Pull that sucker out. Hopefully, you haven't cut your fingernails in a while... use them to wedge between the silver trim above the center vents and dash and pull out the entire vent assembly. Take a screwdriver and pop off the A/C Recirc/Fresh air lever thingie. There are four plastic retaining clips holding the silver molding to the dash. One at each of the top corners of the trapezoidal piece and one at each of the bottom corners. Pull/pop out with your bare hands by pulling the trim straight out. You should see six black mounting screws keeping the double-din in place, three on each side. Unscrew them and you should be in business. ![]() Thank you so much!!!!
I had pulled apart virtually everything... the driver side, passenger side and hand brake cover, and I still wasn't any closer to getting the front console cover off!!!! I didn't even begin to think the two screws holding it were behind the cup holder! Pulling everything apart and then putting it back together was fun. As usual, I had left over screws and I have no idea where they came from. |

![]() You don't actually need to take the cup holder out. I was able to take out the trim with just a small flat head screw driver, with no damage to the trim or the dash.
I did it this way mainly because this is how the service manual showed how to get access to the center console. After removing all the lower panels (passenger and driver side), center console (radio/Air controls), and the center isle (shifter, parking break), I have sure learned Subaru likes clips and using the exact same screws in almost all locations. It sure made putting it all back together really easy. Philip |

![]() Wups. Sorry 'bout the TMI. The center frame was the last thing I removed, I was trying to remember what was really involved in taking it apart. I actually took everything apart that Philip mentioned to do this... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/Foru...ML/001200.html
