hmmm...i'm really not sure if i am going with 235/40 on a 17x7.5 rim (i'm worried about the sidewall bulge and true contact patch with the wider tire). Anyone know of:

1) any good pictures of the above combo?
2) track/autox impressions of the wider tire on 7.5" rim?
3) contact patch measurements (i guess this will vary according to the tire)

(i may need to make a new thread on this...)

Those of you with 8" wide rims and rolled fenders, I have a question.
I have done the sedan, wider trac, conversion to my wagon and have been wondering if I can get 8" wide rims on my car.
Do you think there is enough room for them even though my tires are about a half inch closer to the fenders?

If I can get 8" wide rims by just rolling the fenders I will be very happy.
Like this .

Also, I have JDM STI V8 takeoffs on the car in addition to the sedan a-arms and lateral links.

Thanks
chad

Chad,

I believe it all depends on the offset. I'm pretty sure I could fit 17x8, et48 on my wagon (Prodrive springs, rolled fenders) with a 225/45 or 235/40 tire.
Plus, you probably have extra clearance with the sedan fenders. So aren't you working with sedan clearance? If you are, there are plenty of sedans running 8".

Actually, I havent done the sedan fenders due to the expense of the rears needing body work. I was hoping to roll the fenders and have enough room for 8" wide rims.

If there are wagon owners out there running 8.5" wide rims with not exactly right offset and rolled fenders, then there has to be hope for me with 8" rims.

Do you happen to know your fender/tire clearance with this combo?

thanks,

PS I never thought just rolling the fenders would add so much room.

Chudlo,
I'm running 18 X 8.5 w/ 245/40/18 w/ rolled fenders on MY04 STi.

I'm think you should be fine going w/ 8" rims up to 235 depending on offset.

Thanks for the response. I have an 02 wagon btw. Not sure if I made that clear.

As far as offset goes, what would get the tire close to the strut without touching/rubbing with a 235 tire?

I would like to get as close 53mm as possible.

Thanks

+48mm on mine. About as close to the strut without touching as you can be!
