Default Difference between 2011 wrx and 08 impreza brakes

Looking into buying winter tires mounted on cheap steel wheels that came of an 08 Impreza.

Are they the same brakes?

The 2.5i/OBS has different front brakes (and rear brakes on the 08...08 2.5i had rear drums....09 2.5i has rear discs) than the WRX so be careful. But if the wheels clear the calipers, yes the base Impreza and WRXes have the same hubs/bolt pattern.

NO, they will not fit !! The 2008 Imprezza is a 5x100 bolt pattern and the 2011 WRX is a 5x114 bolt pattern. Here's the reference: http://www.cars101.com/subaru/tiresa...s.html#impreza The offset is 2mm different as well, but that's a moot point.

It's also not clear to me if all 16" wheels will fit over the larger breaks on the 09+? WRX's.

I found this all out the hard way when I tried fitting 2005 STI wheels on my 2010 WRX - doesn't work either (wrong bolt patterns)

Please ignore this post. The 2011 WRX still has 5x100.

I'll email Joe to update that mistake.

The 02-05 16" WRX wheels will fit the 08+ WRX brakes.

Might want to check your info. 05 STI wheels were 5x114 i thought. 04 STI's were 5x100 (i think).

2002 WRX wheels are 5x100 and WILL fit the 2011 WRX:

Ok we have some competing information in this thread.

The OP wants to know 3 things:

Do the 08 base Imprezas have the same brakes as the 08+ WRX: no, the front calps are bigger on the WRX and the 08 2.5i has rear drums and 09+ 2.5i has rear discs

Do the base Imprezas have the same hubs as his 2011 WRX: yes

Finally, will the 16" steelies from an 08 Impreza fit his 2011 WRX: he will have to make sure they clear the front calipers. BUT there is definitive proof the 2.0L WRXes 16" wheels fit the 08+ WRX brakes, so that is a known. The 08+ 2.5i steelies may or may not depending on the clearance to the front calipers.

Assuming the 16" steelies are 16x6.5 and have a decent offset, then life is good. You'd need to get the specs on the steelies. Tire Rack has 16" steel wheels that will fit the 2011 WRX, you could ask them what the dimensions are and then compare those to the dimensions given for the 08 steelies.

Not necessarily, there is a guy with an 09 WRX in our rallyx club who got some 16" steelies from an earlier Subaru and the offset was the standard issue +55, but due to the curving towards the outer circumference of the wheel, it would rub on the front caliper. So he ground down the edge of his caliper and it worked fine. But not everyone wants to take the angle grinder to their brand new car.
