Default My First Subaru

Hey all, about a month ago I traded in my 09 Cobalt SS for 2011 WRX 4 door Red. I will have to say I am impressed with the WRX and looking forward to upgrading. Still trying to do research on stuff so I dont make any mistakes. Right now the car is stock with 27000 with boost gauge and head unit in from previous owner.

Right now I am keeping the car for DD but might turn into a track/auto x car. Parts I have looked into are whitelines front/rear 22mm adjustable sway bar with kartboy front/rear endlinks and whitelines strut bar. I have bounced back and forth from coilovers and spring/strut combo just because although I plan on turning into a track/auto x car it will still be my DD (most likely). I havent been able to do a lot of research on spring/strut combos so I was looking for suggestions and tell me if I am wrong but I have heard BC Racing Coilovers are fairly good.

As for other parts, i am set on the Invidia Q300 burnt tips exhaust with with invidia catless dp, intake (havent done any research on intakes), Cobb tune.

Also for aftermarket wheel, i was looking to go 17x9.5 or 18x9.5 but i have read that 9.5 would rub with factory suspension, so would the spring/strut combo help with that? And correct me if I am wrong but doesnt wider wheels/tires reduce handling for track/auto x courses?

Thanks in advance for help and input!

Here's some advice for suspension:
1) 24mm front, 22mm rear
2) skip the strut tower bar (unless you're getting the rear one for a hatchback wrx)
3) bilstein struts w/ RCE yellow springs are real nice. You'll want to purchase Whiteline's center roll kit as well as lowering your car will f**k up your suspension geometry.

In terms of your power-related mods:
1) skip the intake and use the money for a downpipe
2) Cobb tunes are alright, but generic. Maybe you'd be interested in getting an e-tune that would be made specifically for your car?

Not a problem

I skipped the Cobb maps and went for an e-tune instead, using the AccessPort as a way to flash it on my car. I haven't heard about Cobb adjusting any OTS maps, so maybe someone else can chime in about that. If they do adjustments for you, then that's pretty much what an e-tune would be.

That would be IAG Performance tweaking the map for you. They charge you $50 for that option and tbh, I'm not sure how their maps are. Just throwin it out there.... Eric at Torqued Performance has made all of my maps via e-tuning. I have been using his tunes since I first got my car and I love him for all of his help (mad homo ).

Holy hell! A newbie who researched and is referencing a thread in another section of the forum??? I thought I had seen it all! There's still hope for this world!!!

Well done Chillengillon. Just razzin' ya a little.

I've not heard of Cobb modifying OTS maps, as was previously mentioned. Many have gone with a Torqued Performance map that can be tweaked for your car, as Mr Wrex mentioned. Many swear by them so check that out. IMHO, the best option is a protune on a dyno/street. Dyno tune to get everything 99%, then street to get it 99.99%. No such thing as a perfect tune, but close enough for government work.

Haha well not the first forum I have been on, so I kinda know how to use the search function lol. Since you are the second person to mention Torqued Performance I'll have to do some more research. What sucks about NOVA there arent many dynos around. I know of 2 one in fairfax and I believe one is in manassas.

I have several parts available for sale if you are interested. I just recently sold my 2011 STI and have Tein coilovers, whiteline front/rear sway bars, access port, Process west top mount Intercooler, AEM cold air intake, Koyo rad, Tomioka Oil cooler, and some OZ 18/8.5 allegerita gold wheels with good tires on them. Let me know if you are interested in anything. I sold my car with 9500 miles on it and most of these parts only have several hundred miles on them and are like new condition. I was planning on road racing it some, hence all the performance parts. I just went another route and dont need this stuff sitting around in my garage anymore. I believe most of these parts will fit your car as well. Let me know. Nick

Sounds awesome! Right now I'm going to keep it stock for awhile but when I plan on upgrading I will definitely PM you to see if you still have parts available.
