Question Does "lightweight rear window glass" mean "thin and will break easily"?

According to the Subaru press release, the STi has "Other weight reduction measures include the use of lightweight rear window glass, aluminum control arms and forged aluminum wheels." I've never seen anything like that on a car, so I have no idea if it's going to be fragile and expensive to replace.

It will be more fragile than the rear windscreen of a 2002-2003 WRX. I think it might have the radio antenna imbedded in it and, if so, it'll be more expensive to replace. Of course, there's not been a single report of rear windscreen failure in any 2002-3 US WRX.

Yeah, gimme a break! Since when does rear glass break ?!?!

Now if the windshield was a lot thinner, then we can worry. Who cares if it's thinner. The thinner the better.

Thinner glass will mean less soundproofing (more road & wind noise) and also when it's cold outside your windows won't be as much insulation as usual. In summer I don't know if it will be cooler (less magnification of heat) or warmer (less blockage of heat)?

The major difference will probably be road noise & replacement cost.
