Question OEM CD changer from 2007

Will the new 2007 cd changer work in a 2005 car
Prefer not to cut cables and rewire - I like the plug and play idea

Thanks for any suggestions or idea

Yup just swapped out my single CD in the 2007 to a 6 CD from a 2005 STI. No problem. Plug and play.

The background is green, and the letters/numbers are black. Actually looks good.
I did not hook up the AUX in, cause I don't have an ipod.

You can buy the cable needed at radio shack... they have a 3.5 to 3.5 cable that plugs into the ipod headphone jack and the other end plugs into the aux in that connects to the radio! Radio shack only has 6ft and 12ft cables though, but I found a 3ft cable at Best Buy.

Does the 2007 unit play MP3s? Can that cable be made to work on a serial port on a PDA?

I think he's talking about just running a cable from the ipod to the back of the stock HU, which I don't think will work. The connector the the aux looked different on the back of the HU.

Someone correct me if I am feeding BS.

If that is what he is asking, then no, I don't think you can't connect the ipod directly to the back of the stock radio. I don't think there is anything to connect to, i.e. aux input! As someone else said though, yes the 07 radio plays MP3s.

I have an 07 STI and took my radio out while trying to connect the Sirius tuner to it. The aux port connects to a cable about 4 inches behind it--and it's not USB. Doesn't appear to connect to the radio. It probably connects through the main radio connector. If you can compare an 05 to an 07 connector, you'll probably see the differences. I assume there'll be a few more cables in it or something.

If I recall correctly, the stock unit has:

1. Radio connector
2. Antenna connector
3. Power connector
4. Sirius tuner connector

That's it. Search here or iwsti.com for "ESN" or "SID" and you'll find wrxgrl's thread. I have a few pix uploaded. Here's the link to my site's pix:

Search for the thread I referenced above. It has pix along with information in it.

I don't know which one is the AUX. The aux ash tray unit has a mating plug behind it, but I don't know where that wire goes--maybe the small white one on the opposite end of the antenna plug?

This is probably a stupid question, but I am assuming if this swap would work in an 05 there would be no issues in doing in an 04 wagon? It is just simple plug and play right? Would be so nice to burn MP3 disc and also work on getting the AUX input hooked up

Here are some pics for those who are wondering about the aux input on the 2007 factory radios. I don't know if any of the previous factory radios had this rear input, but here is a pic of the back side. The aux port interconnecting cable plugs in the port circled in green.

The interconnecting wire connects from the radio rear port to the cable coming from the ashtray aux port. Here is a picture of the connectors from the ashtray aux port (left) to the interconnecting wire (right).

Just an overview.

Right on the money. From right to left:

1. CNET cable for the Sirius tuner
2. AUX cable going to the ashtray port
3. Main radio cable
4. Antenna

Default connector details for interconnecting wire

SVXdc requested some detailed pics of the connectors for the interconnecting wire. There are 5 contacts, but I'm not sure what they are all for. Ground, left, and right? That would leave 2 for something else. I don't believe any of these wires are for lights as the "AUX" label in front doesn't light up. Use the 1 inch mark as the reference starting point. Sorry no metric.

This connects to the plug from the ashtray box.

This connects to back of radio. Sorry they're a little blurry.

You probably have to press the CD/AUX button to toggle between those two sources.

When you're in SATellite mode, this allows you to change categories -- notice how the up/down button in the middle says "SEEK/TRACK/CAT".

See this thread: SIRIUS ESN/ID Number (it gets interesting starting at about post #23)

ADDED: That is the post by "wrx grl" that jsmithjr732 was referring to in post #17 above.
