Help! Rearview Camera Wiring
Before I hack into my stock wiring, I want to ask this. Silly question, but you never know...
I have installed a Pioneer Avic-x9310bt into my non-Nav STi. Trying to get a Rydeen Mini Duo camera to work, but am not having any luck, and I think it's because i may have some wiring incorrect/incomplete. The camera is powered by the 12v accessory line. It powers on and displays right when I turn the car on, but that's it. Most importantly, it doesn't do anything when I go into reverse. Look behind the deck, the purple wire for Reverse Signal going into the Pioneer doesn't have anything connected to it. I'm thinking that the head unit needs the reverse signal. So, do I need to run a line from the reverse signal line in the passenger footwell to this purple wire going into the Pioneer HU? I have read that powering the camera off of the reverse signal wire isn't the best way to go, and that the Avic unit is supposed to sense when you are in reverse. Well, since there is no reverse signal going into the unit from the stock harness, this has to be the answer.

If I am understanding you correctly, the camera works when you toggle to it in the menus of the unit, but when you shift into reverse, nothing happens. Is that correct?
If so extend the purple wire off the pioneer harness and tap the reverse signal wire in the passenger kick panel. There are tons of write ups for which wire it is. Make sure when you identify it, probe it with a multimeter to verify it gets +12v when you shift. Sent from my klte using NASIOC mobile app |

Thanks for the reassurance, man... There's a lot going on behind the dash, just wanting to make sure before I go tapping the stock wiring.
From what I read, I think it's the brown wire w/ yellow stripe. |

Sounds right.
I've been out of the mobile electronics game for a little bit, but couldn't you also use the reverse light wire? Is that too old school? I mean, depending on the polarity of the reverse light wire, you may need a 12v relay, but...should be able to signal to the unit. Good luck! |

Did you watch the video I posted? The reverse signal wire is on the passenger side and no it does not look hard to locate.

Haven't been back in this thread in a bit, so just wanted to update.
To confirm: the light brown w/ yellow stripe in the passenger footwell is the reverse signal cable. Quote:
Questions: 1) It looks like you ran the wires from the camera through the trunk trim grommet holes. Isn't that the hole the trim attaches to the trunk via the white panel grommets? 2) Did you hook up your parking brake wire? |
