Use this timing idler for the update on a G?
I forgot about this extra idler, and I thought it came about with the 205.. I did not have one on the parts list for a 25D.
I am speaking of the small idler to the right of the tensioner in this picture |

Don't do it. The old style tensioner is better than the new crap they are churning out.

I wonder if I can fit an EG33 tensioner setup in there; those are very durable and last long. |

How many of you have been able to reuse one of the older big black piston tensioners? I have, numerous times.
Ever try to reuse one of the new ones? They pop on recompression pretty much every time. They are a single use item. Given that I've had more that one engine that I was ripping the heads off and changing something in 25K mi or less, I don't want to be spending $100 every time I work on my engine for a part that's got a 95k service interval. I should be able to remove it and the timing belt and reuse them up until they have hit their service life at 95k mi. |

You don't want to use the extra idler. It will throw your cam timing off. It makes up for the thinner head gaskets on the newer EJ engines.
I've almost always been able to reuse the newer tensioners, but I also prefer to use the older piston style vs the newer pendulum ones. |
