They're gonna start chipping after about 10 minutes of driving. Just get the rally armor universial mudflaps. They're only $15

Wait.

You can get one replaced for free if you have the receipt? Good to know, just incase.

Edit: Didn't you buy them online with debit/credit? There should always be a "receipt" or proof of your purchase.

Oh, I assumed because you said "replace" and needed a receipt, that the replacement was free.

I have had the DRT Components mudflaps on my STi for a year now. In that time, I have not lost a single part of the hardware and they have no problem cleaning up. Definitely worth the price.

I still can't justify it personally. I bought a $25 truck flap from NAPA and used three washers and some wood screws. Cut the flap with a variety of knives and rounded the corners (took an hour maybe) and then just screwed it in to the stock mounting screws, plus a few extras. They've held up great for a year and a half or two, doing about 8-10k miles total. Plus they block more gravel/mud/water than any flaps I've seen for sale.

I like the idea of mudflaps, but I don't like the look of those big oversized ones that are popular right now. I don't want mudflaps that are going to stick out past the sides of the car. What do you recommend for something that's functional without drawing attention?

The bigger it is, the more functional it is. I mean really, if you have tiny flaps, all you're doing is protecting the plastic underbody pieces from rocks... but that's their job in the first place. The whole point of trucks using flaps is to protect the cargo and avoid lawsuits (trucks throw larger rocks than cars tend to), and the whole point of them on rally cars is to avoid rocks hitting up on the side, and so they stick 1-2" out usually.

But I'm not rallying. I'm commuting a lot and taking the occasional unpaved road. I just want to keep excessive mud and salt off the rockers and lower quarter panels. I don't really anticipate shooting rocks up off my door handles. I feel there is a place for subtle functionality apart from full rally gear.

i have only driven on gravel roads 2x now with my Impreza, both times I heard a lot of rocks being thrown into my doors. I'm getting big flaps

Exactly. The flaps sticking out IS what gives the side protection. I didn't want big flaps either at first, but the protection they offer is well worth the protection.

Honestly it saves money on car washes too. I haven't washed my car since I installed mine like over a month ago. It keeps everything but some dust off the car. All it takes is a few minutes driving in the rain and it's mostly clean again. I take at least one gravel road a day too.

I realize you're not rallying. Either way, you have two options.

One: Flaps that stick out and protect the paint.
Two: Flaps that don't stick out and only protect the underside of the car.

If you want to protect the rockers and lower quarter panels, I'm sorry to break it to you, but you really do need big flaps.

If the wheel is flush with the wheel arch (not hellaflush, but not sticking out beyond the arch), how are rocks shooting 2" wide of the body and turning in mid air to come back around into the car?

I'm only seeing mud on the rocker and lower quarter panel where the body work curves inward from the edge of the wheel. A mud flap coming down vertically to cover this gap makes sense, but I am failing to see the physics behind the necessity of coming 2" out past the extent of the top of the wheel arch.

I've wondered about this myself, how far do the flaps need to stick out to offer protection. I'm mainly concerned with just dirt, dirty water from puddles.

You could always get some urethane flaps and trim them to what you want. Leave the outer edge and bottom intact, and trim the inner edge so that everything people see still looks nice and clean. You'd have to re-drill the mounting holes, but you can just use your untrimmed flap for a template on the trimmed one, and then the first trimmed one as a template for the second.

That said, when I first put mine on they looked huge, and now I don't even notice them anymore.

Haha, I understand what your saying.

On my car, when I had the stock wheels, they were no where close to flush. They stuck INSIDE the wheel wells by roughly .5"-1". You would think since my wheels are inside the wheel wells the rocks wouldn't hit the side of my car.

Wrong. On the lower part of my doors rocks stripped off a decent amount of paint. That's the reason I bought mine in the first place, so it doesn't get any worse. It's not even just dirt roads too. The salt in the winter acts the same way. Now that I have wider wheels it would be way worse, thankfully I have the mud flaps.

Look at the bottom sides of your car. It curves in towards the center of the car. This is just enough to make your front and rear wheels "poke" a little, shooting rocks at the lower parts of your door, side skirts, and whatever else.

Edit: that probably didn't make sense -_-

Also keep in mind that the wheels rotate (roll) as the car moves up and down on the suspension.

Why then would Subaru cover the rear doors with protection?

Wind!!!

My RallyArmor flaps will be here on Monday. I have nothing further to contribute until then.

What you are looking for I believe are called splash guards. Only thing is they are not confirmed to fit the WRX/STI. So you might have to do some research.

http://www.subaruwrxparts.com/shop/p...idcategory=268

quick searching...these say they do...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Subaru-I...ht_1308wt_1139

Gotta search his store for the other colors...but hes an authorized dealer with amazing feedback so if he says they fit I would believe him!

anyone just run these in the winter? how do they do with all the slush and such? too much of an eyesore to run in the warm months IMO.

I have a regular Impreza 5 door. They make the "aero" style splash guards for those. I have read that water can get trapped between the splash guard and the body, causing rust issues.

Does anyone have any experience with Rokblokz? I emailed them through the contact form on their website about using their medium sized mud flaps, but have yet to receive a response.
