Default Musk Disputes Top Gear Test Results Between Taycan Turbo S And Model S Performance

https://jalopnik.com/elon-musk-is-be...twe-1839509967

The Plot THICKENS! Did Top Gear Actually BOTCH The Taycan Vs. Model S Drag Race?

Now, if you saw our previous thread, you'd know that the folks over at Top Gear took the Porsche Taycan Turbo S and put it in a head-to-head test with the Tesla Model S Performance.

We think that's great! We love competition and we encourage it.

There's just one problem. Actually, a few.

It turns out Top Gear may have botched the job. It's not clear if it was done on purpose or a simple mistake. See the review for yourself here.

The team at Elektrek as well as DragTimes have pointed out there's some other inconsistencies with Top Gear's test. See below for Brooks' — from DragTimes — assessment of the situation.

So, what say you, Spies? Did Top Gear BOTCH the job? What do you make of this latest controversy?

...We noted that the report from Top Gear appeared to be “mostly fair” and gave a good look at the two vehicles, however, we also noted that something weird was going on with the drag race results...

CAR WARS! EV Edition — Top Gear Divulges, Does The Porsche Taycan Turbo S Take DOWN The Tesla Model S?

The boys and girls at Top Gear are up to it again.

That's because it has put together the electric vehicle showdown everyone has wanted to see for quite some time.

That would be the Porsche Taycan Turbo S versus the Tesla Model S Performance.

There's a lot to argue about between both products. Most obvious is the pricing difference, which is significant. And then there's their respective ranges on a full charge, styling, driving dynamics and a slew of other points.

At the end of the day, we simply want to know which product is the best. To get a better idea, scope out Top Gear's video review that puts both up against each other in a drag race, road test, at the charging station and on the autobahn to reach their respective top speeds.

Explaining its results, Top Gear stated that the best figures recorded for the Tesla Model S Performance during its battle with the Taycan were a 0-60 mph time of 2.83 seconds, a 0-100 mph time of 6.64 seconds, and a quarter-mile time of 11.23 seconds at 123.2 mph. These figures were worse than the 0-60 mph time of 2.68 seconds, 0-100 mph time of 6.46 seconds, and quarter-mile time of 11.08 seconds at 124.0 mph listed by the publication in its comparative video.

So Musk is giving them crap, then Top Gear slaps him back down... Top gear showed better times than what they were able to eek out of the Tesla on the day of the race against the Taycan.

Honestly, they should have just published the crappier Tesla times, not the best that they ever recorded... all cars do different in varying conditions, it'd have been a lot more useful to post up what they both recorded on that day, rather than trying to play nice and post up better Tesla times than what they actually recorded... Seems like Top Gear was trying to play nice based on their previous negative Tesla issues, but this time it back-fired on Tesla, not Top Gear.

Back fired on Tesla

Top Gear is a BS show. Even on the Model 3 testing they run the car at 57% charge after they decided to do 1/2 miles race instead of 1/4th because the model 3 destroyed everyone. Also on the short track portion they run Model 3 Performance at even lower state charge however the Model 3 still beat the giulia quadrifoglio.

Shady shady stuff. Anyway the Model S is getting a 50hp update that was announced on the earnings call way before the top gear video.

Yawn.

One Tesla owner getting some other Tesla owner to do some pulls on an empty highway in who knows where, in who knows what conditions. Acceleration times aren't incredibly repeatable and there are so many variables. Hell, the tire temperature from the random guy driving up to the highway is likely enough to impact the acceleration numbers...

The fact that Tesla and this guy have to try this hard to defend a loss is telling. It's a shot to their pride.

And that's good, because it's only going to increase how hard they try next time and as we all know, competition is good.

In what way? Would you care to enlighten, instead of demean?

temperature is everything. From traction in tires to the temperature of the batteries and electric motors, temperature is the largest variable, imo, of repeating acceleration numbers in an electric car...

Did you watch his videos and just not believe his insight and conclusion? Why? Because he has a Tesla? He got a response from Top Gear confirming the results were BS. Why believe anything they say at all?

Toss the baby out with the bathwater?

Right, because they showed a table with historical times, rather than the time recorded that particular day, means that the drag race didn't happen, and that the Taycan didn't win... The Model S took it off the line, but the Taycan has a second gear so they can take advantage of the torque curve of the front motor - giving it better top-end acceleration - where it won the race.

Tesla humpers are butthurt. Trying to do everything they can to discredit a loss.

but wait, AFTER the race, Tesla announced a HP increase, so the results of this race or NULL AND VOID... Please. Bunch of poor sports. Take the loss. Prove them wrong, don't come up with conspiracy theories about how they "didn't use launch control" because the car didn't "pitch enough" in the video. I have a video of a flag on the moon that you might be interested in too.

good one. Fake news. Elon said on the earning call that all Tesla car were getting a HP update on October the 23rd the Top Gear video was posted on the 30th.

Because top gear instantly releases their videos and doesn't do any sort of post-processing. Try again.

Yes when the bathwater was toilet water and the baby was ****. Entertaining it was. That's their job.

Nobody is saying the Taycan isn't fast or even faster. It was the inconsistency of the time that caught everybody up. I got no horse so I don't care. But why bother showing two cars line up if it's just for entertainment purposes?

Two cars went in. One came out on top. Morons try to discredit it because of visual aids. Not really sure what there is to miss here... The numbers reported were weird, but who cares. The video shows what car crossed the line first. Ask any racer, any real racer...

All these metrics are stupid. The only metric that should matter is, which one will get you more road head.

I think some of you guys are putting the emphASSis on the wrong syllABle. The Taycan, even if it had it been slower in a straight line, was still a better performer everywhere else (as it should be, given the price and Porsche pedigree).

The reviewer also said that the Tesla had more room and was comfortable. It was, in my opinion, a glowing review for both cars.

Agreed.

Both cars succeeded very well given their niche

Who cares anyway? Like anyone is debating the faster X time purchasing these vehicles. The whole thing is just stupid.
