They are great for setting blistering lap times for magazine tests to show "progress" of a model or to bridge the gap on say, the GTR?

They are outstanding at flinging every little rock or debris onto the vehicle's undercarriage. I mean you don't need an exhaust for feedback while using them. The rocks will let you know they are at work.

This guy bought them for his street car and put 50 miles on them and hated them. Figured I could use them for 2 maybe 3 track days next year.

But 0-60, 1/4 mile, skidpad, and track numbers sell performance cars.. even if the car will never see track use.

Who cares about tire wear, tramlining, road noise, etc.. until they start driving on public roads and the highway

.. and of course when they have to open their wallet for replacement tires in < 10k miles.

Just put on the new Continental Contact 6 and Iím saying it now, better than the Michelin pilot sport. Super grippy, pretty quiet and comfortable. Hopefully I can get 15-20k miles out of them.

watched the Straight Pipes vid and the wind buffeting issue looks awful. Not sure how they'd address that short of some ugly adjustments to the A pillar.

They did a good job of capturing the issue on their microphone. It was worse that I expected.

I've heard great things about those. They seem to be higher rated than the Michelin PS4s in most areas other than wear.

Turns out that the Supra seat belt recall was more than just a BMW joke..

Toyota Could Replace Entire Supras In Recall For Potentially Faulty Seat-Belt Mounts
https://jalopnik.com/toyota-could-re...ent-1838975292

Quote:
Defect:
On June 26, 2019, BMW became aware at the assembly plant of potentially missing welding spots at the mount
of the driver’s safety belt guide loop on one vehicle. A vehicle hold was issued at the assembly plant for
potentially affected vehicles, and a review was initiated to determine the root cause.

A review of supplier production records indicated that the supplier had inadvertently used inadequate parts
for the safety belt mount welding tool. Supplier production records and vehicle assembly information was
reviewed to determine the number and production range of potentially affected vehicles. Specifically, the
review found that there may have been three (3) inadequate parts utilized and installed in vehicle series
production.

In July and August, an engineering review and test program was conducted, including computer simulations
and component and vehicle testing to evaluate the risk that might exist with a reduced number (10 vs. 13) of
welding spots. The results indicated that, in a crash of sufficient severity, the safety belt guide loop mount
could become damaged.

In August, vehicle shipment and sales records were reviewed to determine if potentially affected vehicles may
have already been shipped and delivered

Remedy:
On September 5, 2019, it was decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall.

There have been no reports of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.

The vehicles will be inspected and if a defective seat belt guide loop mount
is found, the vehicle will be replaced.

Owners of all involved vehicles which have not already been inspected will
be contacted by phone and instructed to take their vehicle to an
authorized Toyota dealer to have the remedy performed for free. If Toyota
is unable to reach any of the owners of the involved vehicles by phone,
they will be notified by First Class mail by November 11, 2019. If this
condition were to occur to a potentially affected vehicle prior to the recall,
the remedy would be covered by the Toyota New Vehicle Limited
Warranty program. Therefore, reimbursement for a pre-notification
remedy re Part 573.13 and Part 577.11 is not necessary.
BMW's backup camera recall will obviously impact the Supra as well.

I wonder how they didn’t catch this prior to release but were able to catch it shortly after release. Was their an accident or did a customer notice it starting to fail?

Car & Driver recently updated their VIR lap time leader board with the new Supra and a few other cars like the M2C. I've included some of the new times and other cars of interest below.

https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...storical-data/

2019 STI Type RA 3:04.9
2018 Civic Type R 3:03.9
2016 Focus RS 3:03.9
2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition 3:02.6
2020 Supra Premium 3:01.4
2019 S209 ~2:59.9 - 3:00.0 - prototype
2019 BMW M2 Competition 2:59.7
2019 Porsche Cayenne Turbo 2:59.2
2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio 2:57.2
2019 Mercedes AMG C63 S 2:57.1
2019 Lamborghini Urus 2:55.8
2019 BMW M5 Competition 2:54.0
2018 Mustang GT PP2 2:53.8 - impressive for a $45k car
2018 Porsche 911 Carrera T 2:53.4
2016 Mustang GT350R 2:51.8
2017 Camaro ZL1 2:50.1
...
2019 Camaro ZL1 1LE 2:45.0 (10 speed auto) - not bad for a $70-75k car
2019 Porsche 911 GT3RS 2:41.6
2019 McLaren Senna 2:34.9 - fastest car C&D has tested

Interestingly the S209 looks like it will fall between the M2C & Supra.

So ditch the Poopra get an M2C. $65k econobox Subaru performs well. Mustang GT remains best performance car bargain.

Indeed.

I like the package that the Mustang offers, especially for the price. I'm betting that the sticky 305/30R19 Cup 2 tires significantly help with the lap time Ford & Camaro have come a long ways.

The M2C remains one of my favorite all around performance cars.

I think the Camaro SS 1LE has the Mustang (PP2) beat on the performance car bargain front

I don't care about the time, but am watching this car like a hawk (manual version). Pricing (depreciation) is seeing low mile used hovering at 50k. Once it hits 40k, I may be in.

So just like every other Supra review, BMW made a great performing hardtop Z4 that is very tuner friendly.

Last weekend I happen to be pulling up to my hotel in park city right as a guy in his red Supra was getting out. We happened to connect in the lobby and convo went like this:

ďExcuse me, do you own the blue M2?Ē

ďYes, I do.Ē

ďThatís a gorgeous color, I have the red Supra out frontĒ

ďOh nice! How do you like it?Ē

ďItís okay. Itís quick and fairly fun to toss around but itís nothing special. The paint seems like itís the same paint from the 90ís and there is nothing special about it. I traded in my 2016 M2 on it. I wish I would have traded the M2 in on a new M2C.Ē

Thatís pretty damn close verbatim. If you look on car gurus, there are a lot of these sitting on the lot with a fair number of them already marked down $5k. I hope this car flops so hard and is a giant slap in the face to Toyota and tetsuya tada for being such lazy ****s in reviving their halo car. BMW must be laughing their ass off all the way to the bank. Thanks Toyota for making our Z4 r&d cost go way down and ROI go up.

Iím not sure whatís mor disappointing, the NSX or the Supra. At least Honda designed their own car.

Yes. I think my review is on the prior page or 2 pages back. The only thing that feels Toyota is the door handles and steering wheel. It is legitimately a hard top Z4 with slightly upgraded suspension and a tune. It’s a great hard top Z4 but I’d you’re expecting this to feel unique or like a proper Toyota halo car, you’ll be greatly disappointed. I would say it looks mildly better in person. Except for the paint. The paint is garbage.

Yeah I wonder why the paint would be any different since it's built in the same not a Toyota factory as the BMW. I don't hate its looks but it's not car to buy hoping to get out of in less than 2 years. It's kinda one of those buy and park in garage and take out every now and again and sell in 10+ years with 40k on it. The head ingress/egress sucks though.

Do they come painted from BMW? I could see them coming primered and Toyota paints them. Eh, I donít know about the garaging it thing. I see people putting on less than 5k sometimes less than 3k miles a year on their M2 and scratch my head as to why. Itís a moderately affordable fun car. Go drive the wheels off of it and have fun. The 90ís Supra wasnít really a collector until Fast and Furious made it extremely popular.

But my mindset might be different and I see very few cars as garage queen worthy. If I could afford a higher end 911 (gt3, turbo etc), Ferrari, lambo, Mclaren, etc., id be racking up miles hard on the weekends and summer time.

A koenigsegg however would be a garage queen. Iíd probably just go into my imaginary temperature controlled garage with a glass of Blantons bourbon and just stare at it. Iíd probably sit in it and just listen to the engine rev.

Iíd do unthinkable things for a Koenigsegg
