Default Alfa Romeo 2018-2022 Roadmap Officially Revealed: 8C, GTV To Return

Two new crossovers planned.

Alfa Romeo has a busy schedule up ahead as parent company FCA will be giving the historical brand the attention it deserves by refreshing its entire portfolio until 2022.

Guess who’s back? Why yes, it’s the “8C” nameplate used for the first time back in the 1930s most recently in 2007 with the gorgeous 8C Competizione. Alfa Romeo will be dusting off the moniker one more time for a mid-engined coupe with a biturbo gasoline engine working together with an electrified front axle. With a combined output of more than 700 horsepower, the supercar – which is set to feature a carbon fiber monocoque chassis - will hit 62 mph (100 kph) from a standstill in less than three seconds.

Not only is Alfa Romeo reviving the 8C, but it’s also bringing back to life another important badge: Gran Turismo Veloce. That’s right, a sporty coupe with a perfect 50:50 weight distribution is in the works with the GTV nameplate and with more than 600 horsepower thanks to an electric boost. The specialty vehicle will offer four seats and all-wheel drive with torque vectoring.

Now that we’ve covered the hot stuff, it’s time to have a look at the other products Alfa Romeo will be introducing within the next four years. The product roadmap is showing an updated Giulietta, long-wheelbase derivatives of the Giulia and Stelvio, along with two new crossovers – one smaller than the Stelvio and one bigger.

That brings the grand total of model launches to seven between now and 2022 and the plan is to offer six plug-in hybrid cars by then.
Interestingly, the section of the table where you’d normally find a B-segment car is empty and this probably means the MiTo will be axed.

Design-wise, the new 8C has some huge shoes to fill. The last one was perfect IMO!

Supposed to be a Manual Giulia by 2019, car is real good driver but needs a better infotainment and better sound insulation. Mines been totally reliable . Steering and brake feel perfect and surprised is Brembo electronic by wire brakes. I had to dark tint sunroof cause too much heat even through closed shade.

Default Alfa Romeo scraps plans for new GTV and 8C models

Alfa Romeo scraps plans for new GTV and 8C models

Alfa Romeo’s future product plans have been slashed, according to the brand’s third-quarter earnings report – with the proposed new GTV and 8C sports cars axed.

FCA boss Mike Manley told investors during a conference call that Alfa’s portfolio plan has been “significantly scaled back, with a corresponding reduction in capital spending”.

The plan was quietly released in a financial results presentation to investors yesterday (Thursday) and discussed during an earnings call today. It appears to show that the Italian brand’s range has been ‘rationalised’ down to four future models: replacements for the Giulia and Stelvio, the Tonale and a new smaller 'B-SUV', which has yet to be detailed.

This means the new GTV coupé and 8C replacement, announced in a five-year plan in June 2018, have been shelved or pushed back, alongside a rumoured BMW 5 Series saloon rival to sit above the Giulia. It's not yet clear if these models have been delayed or shelved entirely, but all signs point to the latter for the time being.
