Transverse setup, no thanks. And no manual, no thanks. I am sure it will be big hit while cross shopping the MB CLA and Audi A3 series.

Agreed this thing is way too staunchy, bulky, bubbly, weird design cues everywhere. It almost likes like a shrunk down X6/X4.

It seems like BMW doesn't want the average U.S. buyer to know it's FWD based by making AWD standard.

Is this supposed to be an A3 competitor? How long until there is an M2 Gran Coupe?

I feel like the "average BMW buyer" doesn't know or car what goes on under the badge, as the average buyer opts for the lowest tier 3-series on the lot; they don't even check the option box for blinkers most of the time.

It's a shame the exterior styling is so dull because the M235i specs out pretty well;

301 HP / 332 lb-ft
0-60 in 4.6 seconds
50/50 capable AWD system
Limited-Slip Differential
HUD (not available even on an M2)
Active Cruise Control system with Stop & Go

The 3,700lb+ curb weight makes it very unattractive to me, also did the MY2019 cars you still come with three pedals?

a 370z is more appealing at 3,200lbs & 332hp-350hp depending on variety, although I don't like the VQ.

Default New 2-Series Gran Coupe Is Your Corolla-Sized, BMW Priced Compact Sedan From $38,495

Can't Be Caught Dead In A Corolla? New 2-Gran Coupe Can Meet Your Needs At Twice The Price

Quote:
BMW has announced pricing details for the 2020 2-Series Gran Coupe in the U.S. market, where the first examples are expected to arrive in March 2020.
American customers will be offered the choice between two models of the new Bavarian compact four-door model: the base 228i xDrive -starting from $38,495, including a $995 destination fee- and the M235i xDrive, priced from $46,495. As you can tell by their nameplates, both models will be offered with BMW’s all-wheel drive system as standard.

This makes the new BMW 228i xDrive Gran Coupe $850 more expensive than the entry-level Mercedes CLA 250, but the Merc lacks all-wheel drive in this trim. The BMW’s more direct rival is the CLA 250 4Matic, which starts from $39,645 -including a $995 destination fee-, making it $1,200 more expensive than the Bavarian model.

The new BMW 228i xDrive is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 228 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque. Paired to it is an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard, with BMW claiming a 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 6 seconds flat and a top speed of 151 mph (243 km/h).

Standard equipment of the 228i xDrive Gran Coupe includes things like a set of 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps and fog lights, power front sport seats, the iDrive 6.0 with an 8.8-inch touchscreen display and 4 years of complimentary connected services, and more.

The range-topping $46,495 M235i xDrive will go against models like the Mercedes-AMG CLA 35 and the Audi S3 Sedan. Mercedes hasn’t released any pricing info on its baby AMG four-door coupe yet, so the only comparison we can make is with the older Audi S3 Sedan, which starts from $43,995, meaning it’s cheaper from the BMW by $2,500.

The faster version of the 2-Series Gran Coupe is also using a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission, only here it makes 301 HP and 332 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 mph is matter of 4.6 seconds while top speed is set at 155 mph (250 km/h).

To get an idea of its size, the new BMW model measures 178.5 in. (4,526 mm) in length, 70.9 in. (1,800mm) in width and 55.9 in. (1,420mm) in height, with a 105.1 in. (2,670mm) wheelbase, making nearly 4 inches shorter, but a tad wider than the Toyota Corolla sedan (182.5 in. long, 70.1 in. wide, 56.5 in. tall, with a 106.3 in. wheelbase).

Pricing: BMW 2-Series GC vs Audi A3 Sedan vs Mercedes-Benz CLA (MSRPs without destination charges)

BMW 228i xDrive Gran Coupe (228 HP) – $38,495
BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupe (301 HP) – $46,495

Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 (221 HP) – $36,650
Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 4MATIC (221 HP) – $38,650
Mercedes-Benz AMG CLA 45 (375 HP) – $53,100

Audi A3 Sedan (184 HP) – $33,000
Audi S3 Sedan (280 HP)- $43,000
Audi RS3 Sedan (394 HP)- $56,200

The 2020 BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupe comes with plenty of M-related goodies as standard, including model-specific brakes, suspension and steering, as well as a limited-slip front differential and an aerodynamic body kit.

BMW will offer features such as the Live Cockpit Pro -which includes the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and the 10.25-inch infotainment system-, Active Cruise Control, a high-end Harman-Kardon audio system and wireless phone charging as extras.

Audi S3 starts at 43k now?
*Goes to website*
Oh, I can see why. Clicked on Build and it just shows the most basic car Ive ever seen.
Got it to 50k once configured.

Add some wider fenders, minus 2 doors and there is your next ruined vehicle by BMW.

Edit: take your thumb and place it over the wheel and covering from the wheel back so it’s just the front bumper.

It’s a bastardized front end of an M2. It’s gonna make its way to the M2 eventually.

Different platform. I would expect the next M2 to look similar to the upcoming M3/M4 which could be good or bad considering some of the leaks we have seen.
