This happened on my girlfriends EJ22T in her Legacy. We tried burping and burping and nothing happened. We tested the thermostat and it wasn't opening. Maybe the one you put in was bad? You might want to test it.

Yes. I've had blown hg and it never prevented coolant from rad to block...

The turbo was a cheap chinese twinscroll that was cooked when I got everything..

I have read these EJ207 threads for the past few weeks until my head hurt.. lol. I went as far as measuring cam lift and doing some comparisons, and narrowed it down to what I believe is a V8/V9 "Spec C"
The tip from Dave was to check for that air temp sensor on the manifold.

Regardless.. Its an EJ207, in which I'm happy about.

Thanks for the replies and information.. another couple grand and hopefully it'll see the road.

Passed the hydrocarbon test! Possible gates water pump issue.

I've recently got the ej207 into my car, could anyone point me in the right direction as to wire in avcs. The instructions I got in the kit are fairly vague, which connectors am I repinning? Thanks.

Also are the fuel lines on the correct barbs? I'm aware my vapor return line isn't on yet.

You're running the AVCS wiring harness from the ECU to the square square bulkhead harness connectors on each side of the engine bay. Those connectors connect to the engines harness. If it's the IA Performance harness the instructions don't get much more straight forward.

As for the fuel lines, if I recall correctly I think you may have them backwards.

mephistomarius - although it is not our wiring kit, feel free to send me an email and I'll send over our AVCS instruction manual with hopes that it will aid with the install.

Thanks, that's a huge help. Can anyone confirm the routing of the fuel lines? I think I have it right with the feed line on top and return line belowm

Fuel Hoses
The JDM ej205/207 and USDM 2002-2005 WRX motor tend to use the same fuel hose routing.

Top fuel rail port= feed (goes to filter)
Middle fuel rail port = return
Bottom fuel rail port = EVAP

I can confirm that is correct. They use the same routing.

Is there an agreed upon "Best" version? 02-03 V7 with real forged pistons, or 04+ v8/9 with the newer piston manufacturing style (which I assume will be just fine), but the engine is generally newer? ECU differences? It's going into a BH (02 USDM NA Subaru Legacy GT) and I'm going to have the BH harness merged with an 04 WRX harness I have laying around by iWire. Haven't found much info on what ones are Dual AVCS and which are Single AVCS, is single only JDM ej205's? Also torn over Single Scroll or Twin Scroll, with a single I can just put a billet wheel on it for ~400 bucks and make a lot more power, but I think Twinscroll would be more fun day to day. Also worried I'll blow up 5speeds at an alarming rate if I run too big of turbo, so point for twinscroll. I have an extra 5mt or two so I'm not too worried about it, just a pain to pull the damn thing every other week . Sucks trying to make decisions when I only have experience with a stock WRX, never drove an STI, let alone enough of them to compare.

Anyone have any good/bad experiences trying to use their warranty from any importers? Seems prices everywhere are about 3500-4300 regardless of version and who it came from, ignoring some v5's that are about 2k. I'd be willing to pay on the high side of that to be sure they won't screw me if I get a bad part. I'm planning on putting a Killer B oil pickup in, doing head gaskets, timing belt, ARP head bolts, and plugs while it's out of the car (Never had to put plugs in a boxer when it was in the car, looks like a pain). Warranty would hopefully still cover me if it had something stupid like a rod knock the first time I start it. Obviously I'd call and ask them before I actually buy it.

Looking at osakajdmmotors and jdmracingmotors/jspecauto currently. Or the polish guys in Chicago, maybe.

There is a ej207 info page that can answer some of those questions.

Read through it, still here. Maybe I missed the part about AVCS, but otherwise my questions are more for people's opinions than for part numbers and wheel torque figures. Pretty sure I'll be told that I should ignore the version numbers and get whatever's clean, has lowest miles and a twinscroll... I won't be trying to crank 550hp out of it so it probably won't matter. Just need a 12 second wagon and I'll be happy, until I can afford a 6speed swap. Still want to know where to get it from.

jdm racing motors if in canada
j-spec auto if in usa

its mentioned about a thousand times in both this thread and the info thread. there is also a few dozen reviews in the review section. its all there. learn to search. and if you did, get better at it. spending 5 mins searching on your phone while pooping isnt searching. spend a few hours maybe a full day researching. its all there in black and white.

and yes we do expect you to read all 500+ pages in both threads. we all did, so why shouldnt you? those peoples opinions you which to hear from have already posted multiple times and have written reviews. take the time to shearch for them and read them.

Here's my take on this - it entirely depends on the car it's going into (wiring), the engine management you'll be using (cam/crank sensor and AVCS functionality), and even then, I'd only consider the core motor (including intake and exhaust manifolds, but NOT the turbo).

The EJ207 (single-AVCS), EJ207 (dual-AVCS, 2008-2014), and EJ207 (2015+) are all different motors, but within those subgroups, there are only minor differences.

The pinnacle (non-special edition) models, IMHO, are:

EJ207 (single-AVCS) -
Early block w/forged internals
GDB-F/G STI/Spec C intake manifold
GDB-F/G STI/Spec C heads
GDB-F/G STI/Spec C twin-scroll exhaust manifold

Notice a trend? With the exception of the early GDB block, reliability and performance improvements trickled in over time to keep sales of the new model year up. If you release the same thing year after year, people stop buying it. For a perfect example of this, look at the resale value of a used BMW M6 - they started over $100k and you can get a low-mileage used one for under $40k now (just don't blow the motor - I think they still run north of $60k )

EJ207 (dual-AVCS) -
2010-2014 Spec C motor (complete)

Here's the next thing to note - the EJ207 was homologated for GpN competition; it did NOT have a ton of modifications made year-to-year. There were slight changes here or there, but the fact of the matter is, if you have ANY EJ207 within one of these subsets, the performance will be within 5% of all the others. Just because you got a 2014 Spec C motor doesn't mean you'll be making 50 whp more than someone who just bought the JDM WRX EJ207 from 2008.

EJ207 (2015+) -
TBD... basically I'd only consider this if I had a 2015+ chassis (it's VERY similar to the 2008-2014).

Default EJ207 Alternator

Hey everyone on the thread. Any idea what alternator is being used on the EJ207? Is it the same part number as USDM? Thanks for the help!

It's the early 3-wire alt. used on the 2004 STI, IIRC.

23700AA540 which has been superceded by 23700AA541

I think the plug is the same between the three-wire and two-wire alt. - the differences were in the harness itself.

Default EJ207 Owners?

Here is a snap shot of a wide open throttle log, fine learning knock correction numbers have me worried, as it gets on boost around 3890rpm. Any suggestions as to why that type of condition occurs. I'm in the process of having the car e tuned by Stephen Clark from IA Performance. I would like to understand what is happening and why.

too much timing, bad gas, too much heat... lots of things can cause detonation.
