Only 6k a year? Isn't that Baja sales volume territory?
Disappointed the press release mentioned no differences between the Subaru and the Daihatsu versions. |

-> Well, come to think of it:
^ Its not bad of a little car, although its based on a Daihatsu (aka. Toyota's JDM Scion-like brand now), at least FHI might bring this mini here in the US, who knows? -> Here's a vid on how capable the Boon X4 really is, it was made by Best Motoring Japan against the Mitsu Colt Ralliart Version-R (150hp turbo monster), Suzuki Swift Sport (Suziki needs to bring this car in the US), and (my favorite) Honda Fit 1.5S: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKivMUB4_ME ^ The Drift King (Keiichi Tsuchiya) is driving the Boon X4. The question is...
...will it come with AWD? Early reports suggest otherwise.

^AWD serves no purpose in this car. This is, primarily, a city runabout. I live in a city of about 1 million people in Spain, and when I tell people I have a Subaru in the states, they don't even know the brand. Subarus are VASTLY unpopular, especially since they don't offer diesel. I don't know about other regions of Europe, but diesel is what everyone drives here.
A light, efficient, city car is exactly what Subaru needs to start competing with Nissan and Mitsubishi in Europe. On the actual car, i like the looks. I think hoodscoops are pretty played out here in Europe on any car that comes from the East (Korea/Japan). Even mini vans!! |

Maybe you don't get snow (or rain) in Spain, but that's not the case in other cities in Europe. Besides, why buy a FWD Subie Justy when you can get the same car from Daihatsu or Toyota?
Subaru needs AWD as a selling feature for this car that makes it distinct from other competitors. Yes, they also need a diesel version too. Bob |

My family owned (and knows the family very well that current owns) a Subaru Justy, when we lived in Switzerland. It has 4WD and still runs like a champ. It even proved to be more handy in freak snow then a new AWD Alfa (it can get up steeper, icier driveways, etc). |

Here is the German brochure, found on www.Subaru-Impreza.de
The car is 1000 ***8364; more expensive then the Daihatsu, which is exactly the same car . I don't think that Subaru will sell many Justys |

Please note:
- this "Justy" is only meant for Europe - sales target is a lousy 6,000 per year - Subaru only introduces this to lower the total Subaru average of CO2 emissions in order to get a greener status This "Justy" is available as Daihatsu Sirion 2 in Europe. Out of several market researches in Europe it appears to have a very high customer price/quality/reliability rating. My mother has one. It's good, but the 4-step automatic is grumpy old fashioned, with big gear shocks. Usually most (>95%) of such small cars have 5MT manual transmissions in Europe. Probably therefore Subaru only sells it with 5MT (according above German brochure). Last edited by MTB-er; 08-13-2007 at 10:03 AM. |

^^ Yeah I agree. In fact I often wonder if re-introducing a baseline FWD Impreza might work again, for the US market. I know it'd go against their current philosophy, but many take issue with the somewhat pricey entrance fee for the Impreza. A stripped base model with FWD, maybe the return of the Brighton or something, might work for those who just need reliable wheels.
Or, who knows, with the new advent of hatchbacks, maybe this new Justy *will* make its way Stateside. Eventually, in one form or another. |

Not a bad Subatsu, but don't really want them bringing that over the pond.

The outgoing Justy (Sirion 2?) was only made available with AWD later in its life here in France, IIRC. If there is an AWD boon already, maybe at some point Subaru will sell that over here, too? I thought about the AWD justy, but fuel costs and no power swayed me to VAG products.
