Good news! Got a call from Miguel this morning. The repair was approved under warranty and the windshield already came in. Getting it fixed on Monday. Thank you SOA!

Massive subs wouldn't do that unless you literally have like 10k+ amp power... or even more. I forget the actual power, but you have to have A LOOOOOT of power to break windows. And I doubt you can fit that in a subaru... least not a sedan... maybe a hatch? Still doubtful. I've driven and been in cars that have 5k+ power and windows work flawlessly.
Anyway, good deal that it's repaired! ....Gas.... for... defrost...? How the HELL did that guy get a job @ a dealership? |

oh man.. i better have my defroster gas checked out... i mean, isn't that something you have to purge and refill every now and then? I have a great guy who does my blinker fluid every so often, so i'll ask him to throw it in.

I think most insurance companies will cover repair for free, but won't replace for free.

Another case of shattered rear window:
I found the rear window on my 2015 wrx shattered. It seemed like it happened overnight. Unless i missed it, i did not find any evidence of vandalism / envious neighbors. I live in LA, so I don't think it was extreme temperature. Any other 2015s out there had the same issue? I mentioned it to the Safelite technician and he was surprised. Incident not covered by warranty? It only cost me $300. I chose to pay out of pocket, since it was less than my ins. deductible. |

Nickel Sulfide inclusions can cause spontaneous glass breakage in all fully tempered glass (windshields, sunroofs, etc). This phenomena occurs on buildings as well. An internet search will lead you to some good explanations, I'm not going to go into the details here.
Unless you can find a "cat's eye" formation within the broken glass (see photo below), you're going to have a hard time "proving" that it was a nickel sulfide inclusion, although I have read reports that other manufacturer's have caved in and replaced glass once a client starts talking about inclusions... |

Rear Windshield Shattered Spontaneously
Interesting.
Here's my surprise Saturday morning. The dented in spot is where I lightly touched it with my finger. |
