![]() How's everyone doing tonight?? I hope better than me, as I just installed the ZeroSports accordion replacement and I got torn up by the Mosquitoes. Listen.... I have some concerns:
I'm wondering if we're supposed to hear a different noise when this is installed. (I hear nothing strange when I'm in the cabin, except for the idle) Although, when the car is on and the hood is up, I hear a sucking sound?? it doesn't sound like it's coming from the intake.... I can't really describe where it's coming from. And now my car idles almost to the point where it stalls. It sounds like it's having a hard time?? But it drives fine..... That PITA PS pump (does that stand for power steering?) nut *the hollow one, with the hole running through it vertically and horizontally* I installed correctly.. I made sure that the hole lined up with the tube, so the PS fluid would flow..... I don't know about that stand off nut though... it might not be as tight as it was before the install.... Everything else looks fine... WHAT's up?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Blue

![]() Make sure that none of the hoses running back to the intake popped off.

![]() I installed mine and the car's running fine...make sure there's no leaks and everything's tight. I don't know what PS pump nut you're talking about...there's only one nut connecting the plastic turbo intake tube to the intake manifold...it should be loosened to give the whole intake system a little bit play and allow some vibration.

![]() I would say check for leaks also. Make sure the MAF sensor is seated correctly, cause if your getting too much air it will cause idling problems.

![]() Ahhhhh, there are so many hoses there..... How will I know which one is leaking? All I know is when the car is on, there is a definite air leak sound coming from somewhere other than the intake..... WHY me?? WHY.

![]() brake cleaner fluid...perfect for finding air leaks...
while your car is running spray near and around all intake connections/hose clamp areas...your car will start to stumble when you spray near an area that is sucking in air thats not supposed to be and dont worry, it wont mess up your motor! |

![]() same question...are you supposed to loosen to install or leave it loose? Are you talking about the screw on top of the plastic inlet pipe?

![]() Hey guys, guess what? I fixed the problem. I did all the work on the zerosports intake pipe in the dark, so I missed a little tiny hose that got dislodged.
Thanks for pointing that out to me. The car runs fine now. I got the code pulled at my friends. It was pushing out a lot of codes.... thank god I fixed it. Blue Oh and you're supposed to take that nut out from the induction hose and the headers. To do that you have to take the little PS brass hose out, that's what I was talking about. |

I see a where it's (intake hose) bolted to the manifold and there is a brass hose over the top of the intake hose- completely take out that bolt? Thanks Big Sky |

![]() Yes it's all in Japanese, but the picture shows to take that bolt out, and leave it out, as the new accordion piece does not flex like the stock plastic one. And yes, you have to swing the brass PS pump hose up to do this.
This requires the use of a 22 mm wrench to hold the bottom nut of the PS pump, so it does not swivel, causing the brass pipe to bend. I think you also need a 10mm Rachet as well... though it may be 12. Oh, and you have to take the belt cover off as well (only to do the install... you put it all back when you're done). Please be extra careful when you are reinserting the hollow nut that holds the brass PS pump hose, as it has a hole running vertically and horizontally through it. The hole that runs horizontally must line up with the brass hose, to allow the flow of oil. Make sure you mark it! Blue And make sure you don't knock any hoses loose, like me! |

![]() Blue Demon,
Thanks. I went to look at my directions, but I must have thrown them out (as they were in Japanese-never thought to look at the pictures - Doh!). I did notice on the back of the box they show a STi (I'm assuming by the red manifold) and the intake hose is still connected to the manifold. It would make things easier if it was loosened up-I'm heading out the door right now. |

![]() Well, how about them apples! you are correct in your observation. See, we all learn new things every day. Anyway... I did notice that that engine does lack a few things (hehe, and have a few things that ours does not) Like the brass hose that runs infront of that nut that connects to the manifold.... The STI(?) doesn't seem to have, at least it's not in the same place. Just like you, I can not read Japanese.... though in a previous post about this piece, I read that the bolt was supposed to be removed. I'm just leaving it out...... BAAAAAAH, damn american society..... no other language is required! (meaning I wish I knew more than one)

![]() Removed the bolt holding the intake hose to the manifold- does give it a bit more play-allowing the air box to be accessed a little easier.

![]() Sorry for the late reply guys, but I simply loosend the bolt connecting to the manifold. When you're in WOT, it's very possible that the intake air will viberate, which is why the oem piece is "accordian." With the stainless steel pipe, that play is gone and whatever vibaration you have may be transmitted to the manifold and possibly cause cracking.
I didn't take the bolt off b/c it's too much trouble (had to move coolant lane). I think this is the best compromise. Also painted the pipe w/exhuast paint to decrease some intake temperature, but anyway the difference is noticable: faster boost and smoother acceleration. |

![]() I don't think it effects anything, except it (having bolt removed) allows a little play when accessing the oe airbox.

![]() I hope that's true (just for easier access)...I never did loosen mine......everything's fine so far...there seems to be some "give" in the airbox itself....I imagine it's going to be a pain to change the air filter though
