I'll say this again and again. Trucks are the best solution for electric vehicle. Use the bed to haul an extra battery for long trips. One could simply rent the battery drop it in the bed an motor on. Pull into a station replace the battery with a lift and motor back to your destination.

A few seconds. Not something I have ever thought about in almost 6 years of ownership.

Really? It’s about as painless as something can be. I’ve rented them for 20+ years for work, for road trips. I’m in and out of the corporate chain in 5 minutes. Best thing is they have the best road side. I’ve had a flat before where it needed a doughnut thrown on. I call in after I have changed the tire (I did not want to wait on a truck, it was offered) and arrange to swap cars on my trip. In my own vehicle I’d have to find a tire shop, and dick with that for a few hours if I can find one along the way and if they are open.

You should say renting a car sucks for you. It’s easier than hitting the grocery store here.

In other news, some people are idiots and won't consider holiday traffic or range...even when they own an electric. #holidaymadnessproblems

And the cool thing is eventually car rentals will be electric, and can be charged in cycles between renters. It's a very simple solution, and even using gasoline rentals allows electric owners to go fuel free most of the time. I don't own a truck, but for the few times I actually need one every few years, rental is the most cost effective solution.

Oh nos a few supercharger were over capacity how are we going to solve this very complex problem

IT sucks for everybody.

You have to go online, find a local car rental place. Find a price and car you want.

REserve it.

Drive up there and have a buddy come with you so they can drive your car back home.

Drop it off and have your buddy come and get you.

Or if you use Enterprise, you have them come and get you, then you have to drive them back and drop them off.

It is never easy and pain free. Renting a car versus just using your own car. It is never easy to rent a car compared to using the car in your own driveway.

Not sure why you said where I live. I am right outside of the 4th largest city in the country. WE have probably close to 200 rental car places near me. None of them are convenient. What you are really saying is you do not mind the inconvenience. I however value my time far more.

My model 3 puts out hot air in seconds (doesn't matter if it's plugged in or not). It's not the most energy efficient, but you can schedule it warm up your car or just pull up the app and turn on the heat and seat heaters. Unlike a gas car you can do this with a closed garage.

The heater uses about 6kw consumption rate.

Vs buddy...

1) Most off-airport rentals will do drop-off/pickup (with some advance notice). Free.

2) Uber (if available). Adds $$ to "rental".

No I am saying that is your opinion. I can be home watching the freaking TV and book a reservation. About as hard as buying something on Amazon.

Like you, I'm in a major metro. I could throw a rock and hit a car rental place. If I'm using one that picks me up, cool. If not, no big deal, uber, five whole dollars, and a 5 minute ride. All of it is just clicks.

No I wouldn't call any of it inconvenient. Maybe it is to someone hooked on convenience. I'd call inconvenient having to walk 10 miles to school. Not having food, or money to pay bills. The power going out, etc. Booking a car online, getting a ride to pick the vehicle up by an app or online inconvenient? No. In the grand scheme of things it's absolutely nothing. Reminds me of the Wolf of Wall Street quote "Oh honey, what a travesty, you probably had to pay them in cash with your hands!" Inconvenient my ass.

Then there is the liability. Last time I did a track day at COTA I rented a U-Haul van. On the way home from the weekend it started hailing, golf balls, then baseballs. I got off the highway pronto and jacked in behind a truck under a set of trees to keep the brunt of the damage off. I was almost panicked until I remembered this isn't my g damn vehicle! And I took the extra insurance out on the thing. i show back up to drop it off and had to fill out one paragraph. "It hailed on X date at X location" etc. And that was it, no fixing my vehicle, no out of pocket expenses, no drama. If it had been my own vehicle, deductible, depreciation, weeks in the shop, etc. There are many benefits to renting a low cost vehicle for a few days. If you get the optional insurance nothing that happens to the vehicle is going on your driving record, nor will you have to pay for any damage from hail, weather, theft attempt, etc. Until I get PPF and ceramic coating on my truck, I'd rent a vehicle right now if I had to go out of town.
