Default Went rotated? Tired of the stock power steering lines?

Well, I think I have a solution!

Ever since we installed the Perrin rotated turbo kit on my car last winter, the stock power steering lines have always looked like ass and never fit correctly. So after seeing a few cars on here that had steel braided lines made for the high pressure line off the power steering pump, I decided it was time to give it a shot.

So my buddy and I went to Summit Racing tonight and this is what we came up with.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku - This the adapter that goes into the power steering pump. It goes from a 14x1.5 to a -6AN fitting.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku - This a -6AN fitting to a -6AN line with a 90* bend on it that comes off of the fitting above.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku - 6 feet of braided SS teflon line - this is capable of handling the higher pressures in a power steering system comparted to regular braided SS rubber hose. We only used about 4 feet of it and will probably use less once the motor is in the car and we can finish mocking it up. You need a whiz wheel or a big set of cutters to cut this stuff. I taped it to keep it from fraying and used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku - this part is the adapter to go from the 14x1.5 fitting on the steering rack to a -6AN fitting, which connects to the part below.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku - this part connects the -6 hose to the above adaptor.

All of this cost ~$77 after tax and about an hours worth of work. We put everything together, I blew into it and it seemed to not leak, but I won't know for sure until the engine is back in the car and I start it up.

Also, I bought a few feet of 3/8" fuel injection hose to go from the bottom port on the power steering resevoir to the other port on the steering rack.

All and all, it seems like it should work and I'm happy with the way it turned out. We took some pictures tonight and my buddy will download them tomorrow and I will post them up.

Just trying to clean up the overly cluttered Subaru engine bay.

awesome Tim! I have always wanted to do this from the time I went rotated. that hard power steering line is always in the way of things. Looks like I'll have to add these parts to my summit order. ooo this is going to be one big order (a1000 pump, aero filter, regulator, etc..) should be worth it though for my new setup

Ok this is the correct part #. However on Summits website it is the wrong picture. It is a female to male fitting. Check uploaded pics for referance.

bump for pics added.

Also, as I said in the first post, I did blow into the lines and they seamed sealed. But until I actually run PS fluid through them at high pressure, I don't know for sure if they are going to seal.

So there are the part numbers...anyone with a running car want to be the guinea pig?

The stock pressure line has a restrictor built into it... Did you get that put back in? If you didn't, your fluid will foam up in the pump and in the resevoir and your power steering will work like ass... Trust me, I know

Not to be an A$$ but you might want to listen to what this guy is saying, his car is already driving with the mod. So he has good experiance with it working or not.

Anyone else have this problem? I ask because I am having this happen with my setup.

What would be a fix for the foaming and lack of power steering when using these parts?

Nevermind, had a torn o-ring on the reservoir to pump line and it was sucking air. YAY!

SloRice I think you can be the guinea pig since you already have it all setup

I've seen stainless power steering line that was rated higher than teflon based line. Also I think it was earls or some company that also had power steering line fittings. not sure if it is all required though

I don't care, I'll be the guinea pig, but my car isn't going to be moving anytime soon.

The SS teflon line and the Russell fittings I purchased are designed for power steering pressures (2500psi max), whereas the regualar SS line is rated for 1000psi.

RSX guys with superchargers have been doing this for years without any issues. Not sure if they have a restrictor built into the stock hose though.

I talked to one shop on this forum about it and they said the power steering pump whined, but everything is still working 15000 miles later.

He also said they didn't know what kind of condition the pump was in to begin with because the car hadn't ran in like 3 years. So it may have done that anyway.

Bump, any updates about this? Ive seen braided lines on some cars but nobody ever gives any advice on making one or where they get it. Oh yea how would you get the restrictor pill out and then into the new line??

I'm not cutting my stock line apart to see if there is a restrictor pill in it. I'm just going to try what I posted above. If it works, great, if not, I'll go back to the stock line.

Hopefully should have my motor built and back in the car in a couple weeks.
