Cannot turn off Valet Mode
I just took the car to get a new key and key fob on my '05 STi and those dum fux tried for about an hour to program the the key fob and I finally said, don't worry about it, I'll program it when I get home (they did successfully program a new key). While I was at the dealership, I used my Iphone to get the directions on this site and programmed the key fob in less than a minute after getting home.
Anyway, on the drive home from the stealership, my security light was blinking the whole way home (blink-blink-pause-blink-blink-pause). From this thread, that means it is in valet mode. I follow the directions found there and opened the drivers door and held the unlock button on my key fob for about 5 seconds (also tried 10 and 20 seconds) and the damn thing will not stop blinking. Is there something I missed in this thread? This is getting annoying and refuse to take the car to the dealership (I still have a warranty on the car and still wouldn't bring it in). FWIW, I don't have a horn on my passenger strut tower (or I'm blind). TIA,

Looks like everyone is as stumped as me. I really hate to take it to the dealership, especially this one here.

It tells you how to change all the key fob settings including valet mode in the owners manual

Agreed... I read that before starting this thread. I also read the page linked in my original post and noted that I have followed the directions stated to fix this issue and the problem still persists.
Did you read MY post? |

did you try resetting by unhooking the battery... if that doesn't work, suck it up and go to the stealership

Yeah, I tried that for about 20 minutes. I may disconnect it over-night this time.

Please read my original post. The dealership did it. They had a computer hooked up to it as well cycled the ignition like 80 million times as they had no patience. |

well, their work should be under some kind of warrenty. it they f'd up your car, they should fix it, free. why should you suffer because the shop you brought your car to get it fixed broke something in the process?

The security light always blinks, just the pattern changes. Valet is the blink-blink-pause and "armed" mode is blink-long pause-blink. My 2005 STI also did not have an extra horn, the alarm just triggered the stock horns (now Super Tones...).
Drivers door open, hold unlock until the blink-long pause-blink pattern is noticed. I've never really timed it, but it seems to be about 10-15 seconds when I switch between valet and armed mode. |

I don't think you're getting my point. I don't trust them. They're the ones who caused the problem in the first place while trying to reprogram a key and key fob. After about 15-20 minutes watching the morons trying to program the key fob to work with the car, I had to stop them and tell them I would do it. When I pulled into the garage at home, I sat in the car for about 30 seconds and programmed the remote on the first try. Case in point, I don't trust that they'll fix it and they could possibly leave me with another problem. There is a reason why I do ALL the work on all four of my cars, and it's not to save money. BTW, it's "warranty". I do agree, they should/will fix it for free... but that certainly doesn't mean it is within their knowledge/skill level to do so. |

As stated in the original post, I've done what you have described. Yes, it should blink when the car is off, but it didn't blink when the car was on when I took it in I don't think you guys are reading my entire original post, but thanks anyway. |

Sorry. Anyways, I had this issue on MY05 RS and it took a few tries to get it to go out of Valet mode, but I did get it. You did say you disconnected the battery? Did you disconnect the battery and then pump the brake pedal several times? That should reset ECU, but I don't know if that affects security features. Maybe D/c the fuse that controls secuirty features, if one exists. Otherwise, warranty that sucker |

usually its the open driver door, and hold the unlock but that obviously doesn't work for you.
try the open driver door, and lock unlock lock.... |

I said more than what you quoted and you asked me questions that I made apparent in the first post.

Car on or off? You realize the key fob function is disabled when the car is on, right? Quote:
