If you already built your AWIC loop, you could just test by measuring how much flow goes into a bucket per certain amount of time.
The Pressure vs. Flowrate curves of the pumps will tell you what they're capable of. Finding the P-Q curves for the intercooler and heat exchanger might be more difficult though. If you could find them then you could calculate a rough real world flow rate.

Just had a thought… do you think hooking up a cheap flow gauge in line would be an accurate way to test the effectiveness of one pump versus another? I’m specifically interested in the Bosch cobra versus the brushless Davies Craig.

The Bosch Cobra is an OEM spec'ed pump. I'm sure it's fine for most reasonable duty.
I tend to like overkill setups, so I'd probably splurge on the pump. |

I looked again and the big thing seems to be that under pressure the Davies Craig out performs it by a lot. At ~200hpa it's not a big difference - ~1500lph vs ~1800 lph. 200hpa is 2.9 psi. I have no concept of what sort of resistance is in the system though. But at 450hpa the Bosch at 500 lph and the Davies Craig is at 1200+ lph. If we are to believe the data sheets and if I converted them correctly! That is 6.5psi. Even if the system resistance is only 150 hpa, I think it's a ~20+% improvement in flow on paper. I've got a Type 13, but I've got a fairly large radiator out in front with lots of 90 degree bends.... Bosch cobra EPB40 |

Been doing a bit more research and apparently this pump is a little more expensive but flows a lot more. Really hard to compare these flow ratings without knowing the resistance of the system, but seems like the Pierburg flows the same under PRESSURE, what these other pumps do at 0 psi free flow. These are pumps used in BMW, Audi, etc. I'm assuming for their air water intercooler.

1.1bar and up to 60Lpm is a strong pump. I'm sure that would do the job. Any good heat exchanger should only have a couple psi differential for the water, so that pump should do nicely.

The air/water intercooler thead
Super curious to see how it’d affect IATs. Apparently this (on paper) blows the Bosch one out of the water. Not yet sure how you mount it….
Regarding system pressure , by the time you add in the radiator and like 6 90 degree bends, wouldn’t that add quite a bit of resistance in the system? Last edited by pcampbell; 02-11-2023 at 06:34 AM. |

Actually I use a Meziere pump, which flows 20 Gallons per minute
