Registered for the autox this weekend. Could anyone help me out though? I don't understand the competition class system....say you register as SM, or STU, or BSP, then you have to add an additional thing like Novice 1, 2, 3, Street Tire 1, 2, Open, etc. And the
"add timed runs" what do you select? |

if this is your first time, register in novice and the corresponding open class i.e. street mod, stu....etc: taken from the azsolo website:
Local Arizona Region Competition Categories All of the SCCA preparation categories and classes are available in Arizona Region SCCA autocrosses as the "OPEN" competition category where entrants compete for best raw time. There are also several additional competition categories offered at Arizona Region SCCA autocrosses, which are handicapped using the PAX factor method. These competition categories are: •PAX Ladies (PAXL) PAX Ladies is a local regional category for any women driver in any car. Each entrant in this category compete against each other based on their PAX handicapped time. The PAX handicap depends on the Open class that the vehicle would normally compete in. This category allows run group choice. •Sportsman (SPM) Sportsman is a local regional category for any drivers in any car, which wants run group choice. Each entrant in this category compete against each other based on their PAX handicapped time. The PAX handicap depends on the Open class that the vehicle would normally compete in. •PRO (PRO) PRO Class is the same as Sportsman, except there is no run group choice and there is money in place of trophies, see Supplemental Rules for details on payout. •Street Tire 1 (SK1) (formerly ST1) Street Tire 1 is a local regional category for any driver using street tires in a car which would normally run in the AS, BS, CS, DS, ES, FS, GS, HS or SS Open classes. Each entrant in this category compete against each other based on their PAX handicapped time. The PAX handicap depends on the Open class that the vehicle would normally compete in. This category allows run group choice. •Street Tire 2 (SK2) (formerly ST2) Street Tire 2 is a local regional category for any driver using street tires in a car which would normally run in the ASP, BSP, CSP, DSP, ESP, FSP, XP, BP, CP, DP, EP, FP, GP, AM, BM, CM, DM, EM, FM, SM, SMF or SSM Open classes. Each entrant in this category compete against each other based on their PAX handicapped time. The PAX handicap depends on the Open class that the vehicle would normally compete in. This category allows run group choice. •Street Tire Ladies (SKL) (formerly STL) Street Tire Ladies is a local regional category for women drivers of any car using street tires. Each entrant in this category compete against each other based on their PAX handicapped time. The PAX handicap depends on the Open class that the vehicle would normally compete in. This category allows run group choice. •Novice 1 (NV1) Novice 1 is a local regional category for any drivers who qualify as a novice in a car, which would normally run in the AS, BS, CS, DS, ES, FS, GS, HS or SS Open classes. Each entrant in this category compete against each other based on their PAX handicapped time. The PAX handicap depends on the Open class that the vehicle would normally compete in. Novices on street tires may compete in either the Street Tire categories or the Novice categories. This category allows run group choice. •Novice 2 (NV2) Novice 2 is a local regional category for any drivers who qualify as a novice in a car which would normally run in the ASP, BSP, CSP, DSP, ESP, FSP, XP, BP, CP, DP, EP, FP, GP, AM, BM, CM, DM, EM, FM, SM, SMF or SSM Open classes. Each entrant in this category compete against each other based on their PAX handicapped time. The PAX handicap depends on the Open class that the vehicle would normally compete in. Novices on street tires may compete in either the Street Tire categories or the Novice categories. This category allows run group choice. •Novice 3 (NV3) Novice 3 is a local regional category for any drivers who qualify as a novice in a car, which would normally run in the ST (formerly STS), STS (formerly STS2), STX, STU or STR Open classes. Each entrant in this category compete against each other based on their PAX handicapped time. The PAX handicap depends on the Open class that the vehicle would normally compete in. Novices on street tires may compete in either the Street Tire categories or the Novice categories. This category allows run group choice. •Novice Ladies (NVL) Novice Ladies is a local regional category for women drivers in any car who qualify as a novice. Each entrant in this category compete against each other based on their PAX handicapped time. The PAX handicap depends on the Open class that the vehicle would normally compete in. Novices on street tires may compete in either the Street Tire Ladies category or the Novice Ladies category. This category allows run group choice. •TNT TNT is a non-competition class. Drivers who enter in this class will not be included in the overall results, instead they will receive only their raw time. SCCA National Solo Preparation Categories There are several levels of car preparation starting with "stock" and going to "modified". The SCCA defines what modifications are allowed in each preparation category. Within a category of preparation there are several "classes" of cars, which are group by similar potential within that level of preparation. The preparation categories are: •Stock Category: AS - HS, SS This category of preparation includes most mass-produced vehicles, which are normally used on the public roadways. The stock category allows minor additions, removals, or changes of equipment. •Street Touring Category: ST (formerly STS), STS (formerly STS2), STX, STU, STR The Street Touring Category includes cars with Stock category allowances and additional popular street modifications such as lowering kits, wider wheels, some bolt on engine modifications, etc. Cars must compete on DOT rated street tires with a wear index of 140 or greater •Street Prepared Category: ASP - FSP This category of preparation includes all of the vehicles eligible for the stock category but allows more modifications in addition to those allowed for the Stock category. In general a Street Prepared could still be driven and licensed for street use and may appear only slightly modified (interior still in place). Generally updating and backdating of components from an earlier/later year of the same model is permitted. •Street Modified Category: SM, SMF, SSM (formerly SM2) The Street Modified classes have much more liberal engine allowances and may use any (race) tire so long as it carries a DOT rating. •Prepared Category: BP - GP, XP The prepared category allows modifications to build a high performance car which would not normally be driven and licensed for street use. This category also includes cars prepared to production club racing rules. Some modifications for Prepared are not allowed in Street Prepared and visa versa. There are also minimum vehicle weights specified for all cars. •Modified Category: AM - FM The Modified category includes formula cars, kit cars, and production cars modified outside of the other categories. These vehicles are intended solely for competition. Street Tires: any DOT rated tire with a wear index of 140 or great. Novice: Anyone who has entered less than 6 events in the prior 12 months AND has not received a trophy in any class. |

Thanks. So I'll have to update my registration. I'll be running a SM car in the Street Tire 2 class I guess.
I haven't autocrossed since 2011, and not competitively since 2010. I'll be running some no-name Chinese tires on nothing more than lowering springs so this is really just to get a base feel for where the car is at. |

If you have mods beyond this or have stripped the back of your rig then you likely get pushed into Street Mod (SM). Seems like most modded WRX's or STi's end up in SM. If you have an ALK then it pushes you into F-Mod I believe...not a fun class to be in lol... |

I have a built motor out of an 06 WRX with race bearings, forged pistons, and some other stuff. Injectors, bigger turbo, obviously a tune...from looking at the rulebook I'm pretty sure I'm in SM because nothing is bored out and it's a cross-manufacturer engine swap of the same displacement. 16.1 section D-1 and also it says drivetrain and related components are unrestricted except for it has to be a manufacturers OEM optional engine or equivalent (sounds like any EJ swap would be eligible, EJ207, EJ255, EJ257, EJ205) and that as long as you don't go over the liter size you're good to go. Also, for the stock class you can't be stage 2, you can only have a catback. For street touring, you can only be stage 2 if you get a custom tune to run stock boost targets, and you also have to have a catalytic converter. |

It's not as large as SCIC that's for sure, but there some groups here and there but unfortunately there's the "clique" feel to them. |
