ok...the car is what it is, BUT why not put a real driver behind the wheel for the test drive?! This guy is going 40mph around sweepers and saying the car corners...well a camry would likely give the same effect at those speeds! sorry if I come off sounding extra critical. bad review, don't make any decisions based on this drive.

Subaru... stop. Not only is the new WRX boring to look at, it sounds boring too! The CVT slushbox option doesn't help matters. When I look at this thing, there is no soul to it. It's just... bland. Subaru, remember that the hardcore enthusiasts are the customers that got you to where you are today, not the average commuter. |

The previous WRX and STI sold very quickly when they got to the dealerships and I'm sure it will be the same with this model if people like it. If you don't like it then don't buy one. A drop in sales would lead to changes.

There is not always a lot to compare to the WRX, when I bought my 09 the Mazdaspeed 3 or GTI was better equipped but you don't get AWD there so what do you want to pay for, driveline or luxuries. It does seem like the concept of "luxury" doesn't really exist any more when you can get those memory seats on an Elantra. On the WRX you get aluminum LCAs, so again what are you looking for, performance or features? I had a Chrysler 300C rental a couple weeks ago, it had probably all the luxury stuff you would want, heated/cooled seats and cupholders, heated steering wheel, memory seats with the exit feature you'd like, good nav system, motorized sunshade etc. I would suggest for what you are looking for this might be a nice ride, AWD and 300hp it is not bad. But that car will run you 40k and while fast will not drive like a WRX. The Golf R is probably as close as you can get to a WRX with more features, and those run like 34k don't even know if they have a memory seat though a nice interior. Seems like as ever there isn't much to compare the WRX to. The STI is going to look like an even worse deal with probably the same feature level for even more money! Subaru definitely went to cheap on the interior for 08 it was all hard plastic,, so it is a bit of back pedaling. SOA said that the 05-09 Legacy cost too much to produce so perhaps the 02-06 was the same issues, they had to make the car cheaper to make. The WRX has been getting cheaper to buy every year inflation adjusted. This is a very competitive business so every little feature they put or don't put into the car is scrutinized for sure. USDM WRX even has a few features dropped compared to the ROW versions. BTW If you want power folding mirrors, that is easy, I have a '12 Impreza JDM set in the basement that would likely fit this model, been swapping the folding mirrors on for years, at least that is easy to do! No reason to think this WRX will be any different. |

Im definitely in the hunt for a 11-14 hatch or something else altogether. And if its a hatch its likely to be the last Subaru I will ever buy unless they makes some other changes to catch my sale in the future. By shutter's own assertation, the people being "dismissive" have just as much right to express that they're a fan of Subaru moving to a more efficient engine setup. One could just as easily say "I feel like people are being dismissive to those who are actually going to see the car/test drive it before passing e-judgement on its 'lack of soul'." If I like what I see in person, I'm definitely using my wallet to vote for this new direction.

I'll miss the rumble myself, but I actually like the exterior and really love the new interior. And I'm sure there'll be an aftermarket exhaust that I'll like for the new car. Performance is too relative; any car can be modded to perform in any way. But again, I'm not gonna pass judgement until I go on a test drive. Still waiting for a reviewer to discuss the LED headlight performance in the Limited. |

I agree that the interior is a big improvement. They really killed it for me with the exterior though (just looks like a generic global low-cost sedan). Also those wheels are just ghastly. Does anyone like the wheels?
Even though I've made my choice for now, I'm still curious to see if the STI can fix some of these things. I am hoping there is always an STI I can run to in the future. |

Looks are extremely subjective. I've seen angles in pics that I don't like, and angles that I do like. The exterior angle I added back in post 148 is an example of one that I really like. People are saying that it looks much better in person, which I can understand because I didn't like the GR in pics. So I'm gonna wait to pass judgement until the auto show. I'm a big fan of sleepers, and the more I see the exterior, the more I'm digging it. Gonna play with some things, thinking about getting the black foglight surrounds painted to match the body. I don't mind the rims, gonna see how they look in gold. If not, there a million other options out there with the new bolt pattern.

Nowhere did I tell him he was wrong for preferring the twin scroll... nowhere. I'm sure he'll be able to do a lot of awesome mods with the car. That isn't my problem, though. As shutterbug said, the people who are more obsessed with performance seem to have a dismissive attitude towards those of us who aren't as concerned with performance. |

Perhaps you shouldn't be speaking to Subaru on behalf of "hardcore enthusiasts" if you don't understand that many of us have been begging and pleading for a twin scroll turbo offering for a long time. It's more than tuning potential. When/if you drive the new WRX you'll instantly understand why a twin scroll has such a huge advantage for daily driving as well as in autocross and at the track. Most of us that have driven a twin scroll are not in the least concerned about losing a burble because the advantages far, far, far outweigh the sound.
