I had a "Tokyo Drift" moment as I was making a U-turn in a tight parking lot yesterday. It was drizzling, no standing water, 9500 miles on the tires. I'm just going to blame myself for taking the turn too fast. And since I can't afford a new set of nice all-season. It was fun, actually.

also, i should mention. i do have plenty of driving experience in the rain. i dont drive like a lunatic. im actually the guy who drives five miles under the speed limit and is very cautious. i also race cars as well (dry and rain), so i know how to control a car very well than most people and i know how to react to under/oversteer.

Because...

1. Not everyone is going to describe exactly what is actually happening using the same words that mean the same thing to 2 different people... So he might be experiencing something that I would explain differently if I was writing about how his car felt than how he did.

2. Toe out definitely would cause a sensation that I wouldn't describe as stable. Excessive camber can cause weird feelings too. My increased negative camber vs my stock alignment now causes much more wandering when the pavement on the highway varies.

3. It's at least a cheap/ free option to get the alignment checked to see if it might be negatively effecting the handling of his car.

Source: What I've experienced when listening to someone describe a problem on the internet. Different alignment settings on my own car. Toe out on my own car.

I'm not sure if its me just getting used to Subaru's AWD or if its the uneven road that I'm on. Maybe even both?

No crosswinds. The weather is pretty calm here in L.A.

But like I said before, it only happens sometimes during my commute in the morning. Always at speeds of 60-70 mph, and it never happens in the city.

I was thinking that it could be the tire pressure. I have them all at ~35psi.

1. Sounds to me like he described it pretty explicitly. I don't really know how it could be thought to mean anything else than what he actually said, considering he used details.

2. Toe out would also cause the car to not feel stable at speeds below 60-70 as well as in the city, both of which he described as happening explicitly between those ranges and only on the highway.

3. You are correct, it would be free or relatively inexpensive. However, in this case, it's kind of a waste of time if he is specifically looking for reasons that are causing his specific problem.

^ This sound like how my friend described my car after I had more negative camber dialed in when on the highway where there was a difference in the surface because there was construction. My car definitely feels noticeably more darty in following road imperfections at speed than around town.

Could be noticeable enough only at those speeds to generate a complaint for the poster. Could be a combination of the speed and the surface. At lower speeds, it won't feel as if it's occurring with as much frequency than at higher speeds.

So, might as well check... if you have abdominal pain, it doesn't mean you should get your appendix out or that you have cancer, you might as well try a dose of Pepto first.

Whoah, I didn't for my post to cause some tension...

Anyways, looks like I'll be checking my alignment sometime this week just in case. But shouldn't a brand new car come aligned?

Also, does anyone know if you can go to any Subaru dealership to get it checked for free? I bought the car in the Bay Area, but drove the car down to L.A. for school. I'm not trying to drive 400 miles back just for an alignment.

I would imagine so, especially with handling complaints. If not, look for a Goodyear company owned store around where you are...they check for free.

Default DIY Trunk/Luggage Area Light for 5 Door Wagon Impreza 2012

Hi guys

here is my finished product for LED strip lighting that works with the cargo light which was also switched to smd led panel.

QUESTION: the double sided tape on the strip doesnt work well with the felt headliner on the 2012 impreza.

It appears the WRX has a plastic trim on the headliner by the back door....been trying to figure out how to correct the strip from falling down.

I found some 3m spray adhesive which should work since it says it sticks to plastic, rubber, felt etc. but issue is what if the light breaks and i take it off, i assume my headliner will have a glue stain from the spray?

anyone have some good ideas to resolve this? ive tried different double sided tape and still not working.

any type of hooks or clips someone can recommend?

thanks in advance

That's fantastic. I always wished car interiors were a bit brighter, especially when you're loading. Great look, congrats

Maybe see if Velcro sticks to the headliner and if it does glue the strip to some light grey Velcro.

one of the best ideas im come across yet, dont know why i didnt think of it. hopefully the velcro isnt too thick. i would like for the strip to be as flush as possible. but hey, beggars cant be choosers. Thanks ill give it a shot sometime this week.

I checked out that area on my car, and there are 3 plastic circles, right about where you have your led strip located. probably covering some clip points or something. Have you popped those off at all?

Kind of makes me think if the strip was shorter, like 12" long or so it would mount to those points really nice.

good point, ill try to tuck the strip under the edge of the tabs and see if that holds, i think i just need to get the center portion of the strip held somehow so that it doesnt want to droop down. i think that might work, will try after i get home from work.

Sweet, yeah I was just thinking shorter for my own ride The full-length job on yours look pretty tight.

That one little light on the left side of the trunk is pretty weak!

if u upgrade the side light to the 12 led smd panel, it actually makes a HUGE difference if u dont want to do the strip route. It lights up the trunk but if something is obstructing the light's path then it is dim on the right side of the trunk. I have a plastic container which holds my gym shoes etc so that sorta blocks it. I could move it to the right side but i got used to it being there.

will post update if your idea works. thanks again for chiming in.

so tucking the strip underneath those tabs do work, it helps a lot, there are some parts that arent under the tabs that want to detach from the headliner but for the most part its the solution!

thanks again kenny for the suggestion. i just unclipped the clips a tab to get part of the strip under it and presto.

ans2k: i think the brightness of the 12 smd led panel will provide sufficient light for the side cargo net area. again it all depends if there are obstructions to the area of light. but it works for the most part (definitely way better than the stock bulb) if you dont want to do the strip. just ordered another strip in case this strip goes bad for the future. so far so good.

That's awesome mamba. I wonder what those clips are even for. A car detail shop or dealersip might even have a bunch of different types of clips that would fit in there if you ever want to refine that project more down the road.

yea ill take pictures when im off work and post it on here.

Kenny the clips are to hold the headliner in i presume. i did consider getting more clips to put in but it might look weird to have so many of those clips then again it wouldnt even be that noticable...may consider it, for the time being i think im ok with it....unless the other parts droop then ill porbably do it.

Officially been a full month of owner ship. (about 1400 miles)
Had to say I was often debating whether or not it was a mistake not getting the 5 door. But overall I'm satisfied with my purchase as the hatch wasn't even on sale and I initially wanted a sport limited( 20k vs 25k for an extra door? )

I would say my I have only minor complaints. Road noise seems to be the main one. It is quite random. Some days the ride is as smooth and quite as ever but on some roads my good it sounds like i'm rolling over rubble. Everything else is good. mpg is satisfactory.. haven't had any issues with oil or seats, and I've gotten used to the CVT for the most part...

You got your Limited for 20K? That's a great price! My STI is a hatch and I rarely use it's hatch-like utility. I would have gotten a sedan for my STI if they had offered it. Regarding noise, you might get a bit more noise from a hatchback since you don't have a true covering over the trunk area (just a guess, no scientific evidence). Also did you check your tire pressures?

your logic seems logical. also the drag coefficient for the hatch is higher than the sedan = more wind noise.

Driven both the sedan and hatch. Yes, the hatch has more road noise that the sedan. under the spare tire is only thin sheet metal... a little "dynamat" (I used second skin Damplifier Pro, and luxury liner) will reduce quite a bit of the road noise. I personally ugraded my tires, which also made quite a difference (Bridgstone Serenity Plus Turzana). Asphalt is much quieter than concrete interstate where I live.
