Default MY09 WRX Steering rack; what is significance of 9/20/08 build date?

My MY09 WRX needs a new rack. Looking at Subaru parts there is a split date on the rack based on build date 9/20/08. The reman racks at NAPA are split the same way, except the early build date racks for MY09 are $280 and the late racks are $580.

Anyone know what subaru changed mid-year? Same turns and ratio?

Not sure but I would just put in a 2015 sti rack..the quicker ratio is much sportier and it bolts right in

Also I would pay more for a genuine Subaru part..jus my 2 cents

What's wrong with your rack? I rebuilt my 2005 rack without much trouble or tools. Getting it out takes so much time, the rebuild itself isn't too bad.
