How bad is it on the tranny to treat an auto like a manual?
You know like when you shift it in 1st and redline before you shift to 2nd and you downshift and stuff. I'm sure thats not what the stuff under D4 is meant for on the 4EAT (what is it for anyway?) and I'm wondering if anyone has had experiences because of this.
Of course the only reason to do this is to get a lot of noise to come out of the car like in a manual.

I used to drive my AT somewhat like a manual. I usually let the AT control the 1-2, and 2-3 shift, but I would usually manually control the 3-4 shift. Never had a problem. Can't see why it would cause a problem. You're just overriding the preset shift patterns.

It's not a problem as long as you don't let off the gas during upshifts. Letting off will cause a softer shift that at WOT, which makes more wear on the clutch packs.

Are you serious? They are for manual shifting for things like snow driving or engine braking.

um....
it's going to cause your tranny to go quicker than it would normally.... it's not meant to be driven like that. (i know... i had a 99 GT 4EAT) u may want to consider adding a tranny cooler. this may help keep the tranny fluid cooler... (mine boiled over from manual shifts.... a lot) eventually, it will take it's toll.. but no Tranny lasts forever Jamie www.subiegal.com |

I drive my AT cars sometimes going into turns downshifting
with the lever and holding the gear. I would blip throttle to match revs too. Sounds great and AT's can be a lot of fun if you do this. I agree though, if you do this all the time, you might want to get a tranny cooler. |

I do it just about Everyday in my Impreza, However I don't hold it in a gear for more then 2 Min, Beacuse I don't have a tranny cooler.
I hit the Rev Limiter the other day in 3rd gear for the First time oh and yea.. I don't do this, and I know it does not help anything.. but Just for Kicks my car has a 6000 Red line I let off the gas and get back on it quicky around 6000 rpms, causes the car to Squat a little. I don't do it much, At WOT Subaru's tend to use ALOT of Gas.. |
