Default How bad is it if my car is knocking?

The dealer claims my car was knocking but also claims that there should not have been any internal damage unless it has been driven like that for a long time. Is there any way to check to see if there was damage? like a compression test or something?

myko011, tell the service technician that your car's been knocking at least since early May (to refresh your memory, see http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...threadid=39868). You probably shouldn't mention your "serveral stoplight races with launch" (see http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthr...563#post751563). Did you ditch the BOV before taking it into a dealer this time? What, ultimately, was the problem with your engine and how did they fix it?

Is misfiring the same as knocking. Because what the tech and I confirmed as clicking noises coming from the engine at higher rpms was the knocking sound. However, the misfiring codes I have had fora long time and have not heard of any sounds coming from the engine whatsoever. The knocking noise is a recent thing, maybe 3 weeks. Before taking it to the final dealer, I ditched all modifications , but they knew about all of them, as they were still in the car, just not hooked up. The tech agreed that I was being pushed around by other dealers. The problem was that my EGT sensor went bad somehow. My precat melted, cuz the car was getting too hot, clogging up my exhaust gases. This high temp in my car also cause my engine to knock... as I guess it combusting from the temps instead of the spark. The tech was very good about diagnosing my car as I told him that you could really notice the difference at 6500 rpms. he asked if I have been up at this range before, and I said yes and 90% confident that it did not feel the same. I actually got to go help diagnose the car on the highway at the high rpms, as he hooked a comp to my car and a boost gauge to monitor everything and collect data. I await a new cat.

I think you're confusing cause and effect. The are only two problems a bad EGT sensor can cause: it can break off in the exhaust stream and damage the turbocharger's compressor impeller or it can turn on the MIL. A bad EGT sensor could never CAUSE excessively high EGT.

yeah.. I think I did mix it up, cuz that was the story one of the other dealerships gave me. The EGT sensor failed, hence my turbo did not get enough oil and coolant or someting, which is my why turbo was overheating.
