Default question about selling 2013 subaru wrx

I have a 2013 subaru wrx sedan that I want to sell to my friend for a great price. So he can get his money back if he decided to sell it. The car is white, has black leather interior, cobb access port, factory vacuum gauge, huge factory trunk base speaker and 36,950 miles. The rear bumper is damaged and should be replaced. The front bumper has a few scratches too. Any input would be appreciated

what input are you looking for?

You said you are going to sell it to him for less than it is worth so that he can make money on it if he changes his mind and sells it.
Are you looking for input on how much less to sell it for?

So KBB says it's worth $14k-$16k, which is going to be very accurate since car values are nothing more than a calculation.

I guess if you want to be safe and ensure he can get all his money back in say. . . .6 months, you'll need to factor in future depreciation.

I'd go with $10 grand. That way he'll have a solid year to let it depreciate further and still have no chance of losing money.

You realize that selling to your friend for a great price is the same thing as just giving him 2-3 thousand dollars, right? If you had the cash would you just give it to him? If no then keep the price reasonable, but don't give your money away.

want him to get a good price. Not willing to give it away dirt cheap. Bought the car new for my son, but he died about 18 months ago. Never drive it. Just trying to decide on a reasonable price point. He removed the entire original air intake and installed a k&n filter assembly. Will there be a smog issue? I live in huntington beach, california
thanks

in that case maybe you should give him a killer deal on the condition he NOT sell it, so it doesn't end up getting beat on by some random flat brimmer after your good will

Sorry to hear about your son's passing.

"A good price" (for him) is low-end of KBB - that's what the book values are for, to define the range of fair pricing. If he's a legit guy, KBB range (or, a gentlemen's agreement to not resell it, or not for a profit) should be fair for both of you. If you can handle letting it go for something less than book, then by all means go for it.

My limited understanding of smog testing in CA is that it's a pain, and you're probably gonna fail if anything from between the filter and the cat has been changed (unless it has a CARB EO tag), though YMMV based on the inspector. Other CA people would have to chime in on this for a real answer.

Does the K&N filter assembly have a SMOG sticker and number on it? If no, throw it out and buy an OEM setup. Otherwise it won't fly.
