Started with a 2015 C7 Corvette, then got a 2011 wrx a year later for snow. Still have both. Completely different platforms but feel fun in their own ways. AWD turbo noises jdm compared to instant torque v8 and rwd sliding. Considered trading in the wrx for a CLA 45 amg, or Kia stinger gt. Something about the wrx just makes me want to keep it.

^ Nice progression.

Also went from C63 to E63 to 991.2 Carrera, but still highly enjoy the STi cars we have too. An STi just offers a much more visceral experience that few cars replicate. I still love them after 15+ years.

I’ve always wanted an STi and I’m tempted to trade my 15 WRX for one considering trade values right now.

I've owned an 02 WRX Wagon since new. It's got 63K on the odo and it got swapped to a 2.5L with jdm twinscroll at 30K. I thought it was pretty quick but the wife's new Model Y Performance... lol just decimates it w/o trying. The WRX is going to be handed down to my kid whose at that age where import tuners are super cool. I contemplated or am still mulling over swapping a LSx into an 86 Porsche 944 Turbo which has sat for a decade or saying f it and just getting a Model 3 Performance. I'd have to make around 500hp@3000lbs in the Porsche to match a 3/Y Performance.

If you changed to another brand, which one, and do you think you'd ever come back to a WRX or STi?

If you went to something not listed above, lets hear it.

Thanks!
2019 Corvette Z06 vert, 650hp/650tq. Nothing like 6.2liters of supercharged V8 power. It is so nice to not have turbo lag.

Yea I think about that too, the market value that is. One option was to semi restore it within reason and throw on an ecu. Then in a couple years sell it or something like that. Ugh, choices... I have some time with the wrx still, kind of rehabbing it before handing it down. I'll mull it over some more when I do the timing belt or whenever I get around to it.

Agree that there is a lot of driver engagement with a car that has enough power to get you into trouble, but has no stability control, traction control etc.

All of my cars make more power (minus the Jeep) than the Subaru, but the Subaru was a lot more fun to drive.

I thought of converting my 04 STi into a FF kit car, but realized that they used a WRX rather than the STi.

Only for the trans, though they may have a kit for the STi trans but you could always sell the trans and make some money back and get a LGT trans.

I did not know that. Thanks for that bit of info.

FWIW I am planning on dumping $$ into my RX-7, but this sounds like a good back up plan!

My list:

2003 Audi A4 (1 yr - too expensive to repair/mod, boring af)
2009 WRX (5 yrs - wanted an STI)
2005 STI (2 yrs - got laid off)
2003 WRX (5 yrs - current)

I've thought about going back to a GR for ergonomic reasons, but I prefer the lightweight GD chassis. I've made enough interior mods to my 03 that I comfortably fit in it now. The only thing that makes me consider selling it is that lately, it attracts a ****ton of attention. Like, I can't drive it anywhere anymore without someone wanting to race. And I drive maybe a couple of times a week.

It is WRB so maybe they can't help themselves after being in the one true color's embrace. I have a friend with a GR WRB WRX who has the same issue. I am thinking about painting or wrapping it white or gray at some point (not a huge WRB fan on my car). Hopefully, that will tone down the level of attention it gets.

I went from the following since my WRX:

2016 WRX
2015 Audi S3 (regret trading the WRX for this)
2018 BRZ

I wanted to go back and get a new STi once my BRZ lease is up. But I ended up selling for profit this month and went with a 2022 Kia Stinger GT-Line as the new daily. However I did pick up my first EJ a few months ago (06 Legacy Spec.B) as my project car, so I managed to keep around some Subbie fun.

Even though I was maybe aiming for an STI, having the Spec.B sorta cancelled that desire out. But no one in DFW also had stock or was willing to make a deal. If I was able to drag things out I would of waited for the next gen WRX/STI but I'll give this Stinger a chance for now and see if next gen will be enticing enough to buy next. Sucks both my ambassador and loyalty coupons are gonna go to waste.

2004 wrx
2005 STi
added same 2004 wrx back
2013 brz
2013 wrx limited hatch

At this point my next car would need to be:
a) AWD
b) fun & manual transmission
c) a hatchback for practicality (I have one kid and will have another)
d) refined enough so I don't feel silly driving it when I'm nearly 40

Really I need subaru to make another wrx hatchback or the RS3 in a hatch and with a 6spd.

17 subaru's deep, a few 911's (trucks don't count)

I'm left with: 00 sti, 02 sti, 21 sti and an aircooled turbo carrera.

13 wrx, to a 20 STi

When i test drove the STi it was everything I wished my WRX already was. So now I'm waiting on whatever the new STi is gonna be, and if I'm gonna get that too.

If I dont end up liking the new STi, I'm either just gonna keep mine, or trade it in for a Supra when I get tired of it.

I generally am a Mustang guy, but I love all cars, so i'm not a snob, but I guess I am snobby about cars that aren't a stick. I love the fact that cars like the new Cadillac CT5-V come in a stick.

My first car was...

1999 GT
2013 WRX
2012 GT
1986 GT

I totaled my 13' WRX last summer and put quite a bit of money of it and it was a shame since it only had 41k original miles and I bought it new. I actually ordered in Nov. of 2012 and bought my 2012 Mustang GT in March of that year and then March of 2013 I took delivery of my 2013 WRX. I was looking for a used WRX, but I kept finding ones with 20-30k miles for $24-26k. Before taxes, my car was a base model with only a few options and costs $27,xxx new, so I figured, I might as well buy a new one and just have to wait for it to be built unless I wanted to go all the way to CA to buy one, and I wasn't in a rush to get it. Luckily my insurance covered the entire car +$5k that I had as a part of my policy. I really wanted to rip some parts off the car before while it was in the lot they towed it to, but I fractured my sternum and couldn't walk for 1.5 months and it didn't fully heal at about 2 months. I would have loved to bring a tool boxed and quickly rip some parts off, but I could barely move at the time. At least my dad pulled a weighted custom shift knob I had on the car.

Anyways, I used some of the money to get a Fox body, since I always wanted one, especially a four eye. I was looking at 2011-2014 WRX/STi sedans since I still needed a DD and was really trying to convince myself to like the 15+ WRX/STis, but I just don't like the way they look. Sometimes, I don't mind them, but overall, they look too mundane and look like new Corolla with a hood scoop. No joke, I just went to the Toyota website and the 2nd to most expensive Corolla costs 25k and the most expensive one costs 28k! I just loved the bulging fenders on the 11-14' WRX/STis the most, but most likely i'll look into getting an 02-07 WRX/STi purely as a DD.

I'm also looking into 1st and 2nd gen. CTS V' for a DD. I have to say I did miss RWD when I sold my Mustang and only had my WRX for a while, but it shouldn't be a problem now. I wanted an AWD for when it snowed, but I also have an Outback in the family, so it's not a major deciding factor anymore. Any DD I get will be a stick, and any car after that will always be a stick that I own. I'm hoping to do an SRT8 Jeep stick conversion with a TR6060 and an ECU from an SRT8 Challenger. Not sure how to keep it 4/AWD though.

I honestly tried to come back to an STI the other weekend. I got in it, and I just couldn't go back to the interior after being in a GTI for 8 months. It was like jumping off a cliff. I love the drive train, but the wheel, the seats, the dash, just feels sooooo bad. I wasn't expecting that to kill it because I have had so many over the years. I guess I am going soft.

The newer ones aren't as bad as the older cars, but Subaru has generally been behind the curve some and VW ahead of it in regards to interior scoring. I do know what you're talking about though, the interior is all you see when you're in the car, so if it rubs you the wrong way, it's like a nagging irritation. I've wanted an Evo for as long as I can remember, but anytime I've sat in one I'm instantly soured on the idea. THAT interior is horrible
