Nice, didn't even really know Toyota was making a GR Corolla, I probably read about it at some point an then forgot (not in the market). Nice to see a successor to the STI hatch and another option for the hot hatch segment.

Same here. I'm guessing this car will be unobtanium and I'll end up in a BRZ for my mid-life crisis car.

Relax, it's not a Hyundai, it'll be available.

Why do I feel like possibly.. just possibly, there was a convening between design engineers.

If the Clad-RX pisses me off in two years, a 2024 GR it is.

Pretty sure it was the Mazdaspeed3 design team...

Odd of this car lasting beyond 2 years? I feel like this will be FoRS 2.0.

I'm so damn pissed Subaru wouldn't make this car. I'm pissed that I am not buying a 2023 STI. But hell, this GR Corolla is literally everything I could dream of in a car, so I guess I'm buying one.

Back in 2014 I missed out on buying a hatchback STi on ebay from a dealer, I regret that even now cause I love the shape. This corolla will do just fine as a replacement.

I am hoping the GR-4 can be my DD so I can keep the STi hatch until I get the sack.

I have an in state stealer that is much closer to me than the one I will be buying from that does MSRP only. But they refused to take a deposit 2 weeks ago. I mean it's so bad people are putting in deposits at 2, 3, up to 6 dealers on this deal. So it's going to be worse, much much worse, than when I bought my RS. Total cluster. If the leaked info is accurate, 1080 cars for first production year, and I think all will be launch editions a la Supra style with Yota. Some are stating 1 per stealer so that puts me out on the first run. I could call back that dealer who wouldn't take a deposit but I'm not going boxing, f all that. And MSRP on this thing is akin to invoice pricing before the pandemic. There are going to be absolutely stupid ADM from so many thieves. STi getting cancel culture is just going to make it 100% worse. I emailed my stealer this morning, she responded, and told her that I'll take delivery much sooner if need be but my target is still end of next year. I don't care about the CF roof or the vents in the hood as that is just cosmetic stuff. Launch editions are mostly fluff to me. I think after launch editions there will be a circuit pack type option with body colored roof and that's probably when I will get mine.

Also to note given what you said....many Yota stealers are moving to an in state purchase model. If you're out of state you are SOL. They are refusing. That will probably become more commonplace and remain intact until all this chip shortage nonsense is historical.
Just wanted to say thanks for the tip. I found a dealer nearby who doesn't go above MSRP. I reached out to them, telling them I was interested in the Corolla, but not willing to receive a phone call. Immediately I received a text and was able to have a back and forth conversation, getting my questions answered. Very convenient and informative.

30 minutes until the car's officially unveiled.

Edit: power/tunability headroom was brought up earlier somewhere in the thread.
Motive in Australia has been building a GR Yaris for circuit and drag racing - 485hp at the hubs on stock internals is where the OE multilayer steel head gasket gave up. No damage to the head, block, or head studs, but coolant was seeping through the layers of the head gasket in cylinder 2. They've rebuilt the top end, it now makes over 500hp at the hubs with a set of cams so they can run less boost, but still the stock head gasket and studs as there isn't anything aftermarket (it also has a dogbox now).

At 300hp out of the box, the GR Corolla is going to be fun, I think a tune & better flowing exhaust will net a reasonable wheel horsepower figure safely and that will be enough for most; if people start chasing big power, it appears to be doable, but I'd assume dropping big money would be in their future as even if the engine is stout, you're just going to find the weakest link, then the next... then the next.....

I hope it comes in Neptune blue (aka Voodoo blue, aka Grecian water)
My man, yep. Motive proved to me that I can do 400 whp, and call it a day, hell 375 whp and I’m solid. Cannot wait. Reveal/video starts in 30 minutes. I’m actually skipping the gym for once for this!

Workin' on it bro! Chiiilllll.

Performance Package for non Circuit Edition (Launch Edition) is probably where most will go.

I'm aiming for the Circuit Edition. 2023 is good for me! Plus that Heavy Metal Gray paint is super, super legit.

Bahhh, no MSRP announced. Circuit Trim is the one to get though, in Heavy Metal.

Can't imagine how hard it would be to get the Circuit if it is limited to 1 year.

I had already notified my dealer of my "heavy metal" choice. But I'll take the core with the circuit pack in white if need be. Aiming for that beautiful grey bitch though!

I love that color too. I'd probably get it wrapped in that color if I got bored of the Heavy Metal. Doubtful, but possible.

Amen! I'm gonna see if I can pay for this thing outright by the time it's on the lots. As soon as orders open up, I'm putting mine in.

I actually came back in to post about the weight. That's so impressive! 6500 RPM for 300HP ain't bad either. Can't wait to put a Cobb AP on this thing.

GR Yaris has a 7200rpm redline, funny that they lowered it and yet got 300hp out of that.

s***, looks like I'll have to buy a 2023 model because I want the circuit edition, and I'm stuck with red, darn... Talking to a dealer tomorrow AM (also all local dealers that will give me one at MSRP).
