Of course, for auto-x purposes, get the highest snell rating you can (SA2005?). After that, comfort. You want large enough that it's comfy, but not wobbly on your head. And make sure the outside diameter isn't so large that it'll be bumping into everything inside the car. Maybe not as important since you're not super tall, but mine hits the headrest and "Oh **** handle" while just sitting in the car in the staging line. Make sure the strap and buckle system is easy to use. Look for some ventilation, too. |

we bought ours at Mad Hatter. $150 each on sale. any of the bike shops should be snell and DOT rated. as Jay mentioned, make sure you try and get the HIGHEST DOT rated helmet so you don't have to replace it as soon.

should be snug on your head and you should be able to chew bubble gum, if your biting your cheeks, then its too tight

Dude, Don't go to the mad hatter... it's a rip off.
I can get you hooked up. SNELL approved Scorpion helmets www.scorpionusa.com. They are ranked up with Aari and Shoei but the price awesome. I can you a discount off MRSP. Scorpions are the most comfortable I have used, great for bikes too... visors will not fog. They are Bada55. Many graphics and plain colors to choose from. Take your pick just let me know. |

Deals, fit, and Snell
I think most important is that you have the proper Snell rating for the helmet, then fit (snug, yet you should not be able to be "twisted" it while it is on your head), and then cost.
The Arctic Alaska Region has purchased many helmets direct from Bell for group purchase, yet locally we have purchased from Alaska Leather (Arctic and Benson) and have been given an easy 10% discount. Plus to local purchase? You get to fit the brain-bucket on your head before purchasing! |

Oops...I don't think I agree!
AKOBS, I missed this post!! Unless you are going to be moving onto a Club Racing (yup, Club Racing in Alaska!) venue with the SCCA, you will not need to have SA--the M2005 Snell will be fine (and cheaper)!

I got a great deal from them on my current helmet, no issues so far. I might in the far future invest in one thats not so tall on my head to give me more head room. I'm in a simular boat as AKOBS... us tall guys haha though I fit very well in the STi.

Another recommendation for Scorpion here. You can get it at Alaska Leather for $150. I got mine recently, and am very happy with it. Heard nothing but good about them, basicly a good quality helmet for a lot cheaper than shoei or arai. I got the EX400, and there's a EX700 that's a bit lighter.

Even if you want an Aari, Shoei, KBC, Scorpion, ect, ect... a riding jacket, boots, gloves, or anything else let me know what you want (brand, size, style, colors).... ahead of time and I can get ya hooked up with a decent chunk off MSRP.
