Legacy crash in-car video now on-line
Go to www.freediskspace.com and log in as "thepno95", password is "olsen". The clip is in the Racing folder - both clips there are the same, just the smaller one is low resolution and the bigger one is medium resolution. Download will probably be pretty damn slow, but I don't have a site of my own so this will have to do for now.

That makes me want to cry... but also makes me want to get out on-track.
We should talk sometime about how your insurance company is dealing with that, I'd be interested to know how it works. Sorry for the loss, glad you were not hurt. A |

Patrick - I tried repeatedly to d-load it... MS IE failed with a "JavaScript not loaded" error, and Netscape complained about the danger of letting the Javascript have the power to load the movie, then failed to d-load anyway...
Any chance you could send it to me? - Eric '98 2.5 GT Wagon - <a href="http://208.9.184.110/MembersList/ViewMemberPics.cfm?MemberID=143" target="_blank">Pics</a> - <a href="http://www.jeneric.ws/eric/radioflyer.htm" target="_blank">Page</a> - [This message has been edited by Radio Flyer (edited September 06, 2000).] |

I must say that I have to agree with Randy... :,( It hurts me to watch the end of that video. Thanks for sharing with us, Patrick. I hope that the insurance co. will be understanding and quick to get your car on the road again.
However, the turns and all leading up to it look to be a hoot. - Eric '98 2.5 GT Wagon - <a href="http://208.9.184.110/MembersList/ViewMemberPics.cfm?MemberID=143" target="_blank">Pics</a> - <a href="http://www.jeneric.ws/eric/radioflyer.htm" target="_blank">Page</a> - Thanks for the link, Randy! |

It seems to me he hit that turn hot and because he did once he braked the tire lost grip and started to skid. I have been in chases where the car is flying and then take a turn and lose grip and start to slide in a front wheel drive car I would punch the gas and point it where I wanted and would get out of the skid of course this was a police package ford taurus. I was chasing a jeep. Only my view.

I think it would have been pretty difficult for Pat to get out of that one. The rear end came around pretty quick, and from the sounds of it, he was already on the gas. Read Pat's take on the crash (its on the site somewhere...).

Thanks for sharing pat!
Felix: The way that I have been taught to react to a slide like that (by SCCA, Bondaurant, and Porsche) is to put both feet in, meaning foot on the clutch and foot on the brake. Lock them up. Once you are past the point of no return on a spin, this method will stop you fastest, straightest, and safest. It is very dramatic to see a video of this in action. Personally, I usually end up with my foot on the gas (for a RWD car) to keep the car from sliding sideways in the infield. I have seen too many rolls like the one pat did from sliding sideways. Eric: According to pat: "It took 4 weeks of investigation to decide, but USAA did cover my claim, so I got a nice fat check and the loan paid off. It's annoying that it took so long for them to decide, but it would have been even more annoying if they had said NO and I had then needed to go to court." |

Is there any way you could send me the video? I've tried to download it from both links but it doesn't work. I'd be interested to see what exactly happened. Can't really imagine it from what you wrote in the post a while back.
Thanks, Jason |
