Default Shifter play/looseness

Hey guys, I have a 2018 wrx and so far I have done these shift mods: boomba shift plate & short shifter, shift stopper, metal bushing, and a heavy shift knob (by raceseng). The change is amazing vs stock: super smooth and precise. However, one last thing I wish to improve (or eliminate) is that little bit of play when you wiggle the stick up and down in neutral or gear (not actually going into gears).

I checked everything when I installed the short shifter to see if I could tighten it up. I saw nothing. And none of the above mods helped with this up/down play at all, still same as stock. I had someone wiggle the stick while i was under the car and there is 0 movement at the transmission plate. Everything is also tight at the lever. The sloppiness occurs somewhere in between the plate and the lever along the cable. My guess is it's the tubing that flexes/moves through which the shift cable goes.

Is there anything that can be done here? Ideally, i just want that solid connection from stick to gearbox plate with no play at all. I know some people will say it's a cable system and it sucks and nothing can be done. So I am looking for help from someone who thinks outside of the box and has some ideas for this.

I don't know about the WRX but on the STI considerable play is eliminated when the OEM rubber shift link bushings are replaced with poly ones (front and rear). I am not familiar with the cable setup on the WRX, I have no idea if this logic is transferrable.

yeah, it's very different with the cable linkage on the wrx. There is zero play at the actual shifter (where the bushings would go on the sti), the play happens along the cable somewhere. It's sort of like going with stainless brake lines and reducing the slop, same thing with this system. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas for this. It's a nitpick for sure, but if resolved, would benefit a ton of people.
