Acceleration Comparison Between a Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0 and a 2014 991 GT3
The video below claims to be an acceleration comparison between the new 475hp 991 GT3, and the 500hp 997 GT3 RS 4.0 from standstill to around 200km/h. We know it's not an apples to apples comparison. However, it's still a pretty fair match considering the new 991 GT3 sports 475 horsepower (25 less than the RS 4.0) but sits ever so slightly lighter on the scales (40 lbs or so) with a curb weight of 3153 lbs. These slight differences make for a pretty close match-up and the new GT3s launch control should even things out. In fact, it seems like it's the PDK transmission that gives the new 991 GT3 the edge off the line and for the first 100 kilometers per hour or so. It's not until the top of 3rd gear that the extra horses of the limited edition 997 GT3 RS 4.0 start to show themselves and really pull away.

Near future 991 GT3 RS 4.0 FTW! Make more of them, and with optional gearboxes, please. That way I can have a choice of not owning either one!

Sweet - 991 is proving itself... I'll definitely be driving a Turbo S when they get here to perhaps replace ye ole DD.
Didn't know about John Dixon - definitely a place to visit if ever in OH. Last edited by E. Nick; 09-05-2013 at 12:01 AM. Reason: The regular turbo won't be offered in manual either |

Probably Not Using Launch Control
The GT3 revs are at about 6-7,000 rpm when he (or she) engages the clutch/releases the paddles. Don't think that was launch control. As a result, seems like the tires aren't hooking up much for the first second. I would imagine that if the launch control was used or if the revs were closer to 4,000 when the paddles were released, less wheel spin would result in a quicker launch.

Also FWIW, the GT3 has a passenger in the car while the GT3Rs had only a driver. Both amazing cars. Go check out how well it is doing:
