Default 05 STi factory short shifter questions

How many components make uo the factory STi short shifter?

Is it the lever only?

Is it the lever and the linkage rod?

Is it a bunch of other stuff that I haven't mentioned?

I am asking because I will be purchasing (or trading for) an 05 STi and was wondering what components come with the expensive "factory" short shift kit? Would I be better off to just get a Kartboy or does the factory kit come with a bunch of linkages that the aftermarket kits don't come with?

The KB is just the lever- the factory kit is the entire linkage plus the shift lever.

Right what Brian just said. I drove my car without one but before i took delivery i requested the sti short throw shifter. Does it make that much of a difference, I don't think so... Is it worth that much money, probably not. But I have peace of mind knowing its a genuine sti product installed by my dealer. I do however want to sit in somebody's car that has the Kartboy, as it decreases the throw 30% more than the STi shifter. I don't think the throws are short but I also don't think the throws are long with the Sti sts installed. Its up to you in the end, spend 70% less or go with something from the factory.

I've tried both and Kartboy is the choice and is made in San Diego, USA.

Talking Kartboy SS Rules!

I have the Kartboy SS and bushings installed in my '05 STI and it is the best mod for the $$. The difference in shifting is absolutely amazing. The icing on the cake was the discount that Brett from Renick Subaru gave me when he was having a sale two weeks ago.

thanks for all of the input.

I guess the way this breaks down is:

Kartboy + factory = best

factory = good

stock = soso

why does the factory kit include the new linkage rods? stiffer bushings? different linkage lengths?
