Default I went to the dark side... WARNING ⚠️ non Subaru content within.

So Iíve been on NASIOC and a part of the Subaru community since the early 2000ís. Iíve owned 7 Subarus thus far, currently still have 3 of them. I decided to finally pull the trigger on something Iíve wanted for at least 10+ years now. I guess you can say I went to the dark side so to speak because well... I bought an Evo. Not just any Mitsubishi Evolution though, I bought a JDM spec 1994 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution II GSR, right hand drive and all! Iíve wanted an older Evo 8 or 9 for years and the opportunity for this older gen 2 came up and I couldnít pass on it. I recently picked it up from Top Rank Importers in Cypress, CA. Itís in really good condition considering itís 26 years old now. Anyway, enough story... hereís some pics.

Wow... stellar piece and purchase! Funnily enough I was looking at that exact lan-evo from Toprank.

How was the overall purchasing process if you don't mind me asking?

The staff their was great, Brian and Yaska specifically were very helpful and patient with me. I had a hell of a time getting my insurance company to play ball, but eventually I got a hold of an agent that knew what they were doing and itís all good to go now

Good to hear. Hopefully in the next year or so I will finally take the leap and source a lan-evo 2 or 3 myself.

I will say the Evolution 3ís should be a better platform to build upon if thatís your plan. The 3ís have a slightly larger turbo and higher compression ratio. The front spoiler and rear were improved for better air flow and downforce as well. Should be fun, Iím waiting for the Vís to come for a future addition.

I've had my eyes set for a 3 with the only issue being they are just now legal as of February, I believe? Once some of the common importers start to get theirs in I'll be inclined to check one out.

Thanks, Iíll update this thread with the few minor things I have in the works for the Evo. Plan for now is some quality tint because I live in AZ and it gets hot of course. Iím also looking into the Fujitsubo catback (OEM looking muffler but single tip) and possibly the front pipe section from them as well. If anyone knows of a good intake for this car that would be appreciated as Iíd like to get a bit more sound out of the car, itís super quiet. Other than that I plan on keeping the car mostly stock to retain the value and collectibility of it. BC racing makes coilovers for it but I have mixed feelings on changing the factory suspension setup.

I've seen both Apexi and HKS as aftermarket solutions. Something to look into, you can probably find one or the other on nengun and japanparts.

This is not my car pictured above but a good representation of what mine would look like if I decided to go with a set of coilovers and lower the car some. Itís certainly tempting and it may just have to happen.

Very tempting. I'm unsure if its the angle of your first pic but now I notice some gap! Either way, I'm sure the handling is great both ways.

Yeah from factory these older Evoís have a ton of gap! Haha, of course that was done on purpose to replicate the WRC cars at that time but not so desirable these days on a tarmac only setup.

It's your car/money/taste, but personally, I recommend keeping it as stock as possible. The older the car, the fewer there are in original condition. Whereas with a new car, every Tom, Dick and Harry rushes out to slap aftermarket wheels/coilovers/exhausts on their new car to express themselves. Nothing stopping you from doing the same with an older car, but like the car itself, there are fewer examples of the original parts out there over time, so having it as close to original as possible will help it maintain its value and rarity as opposed to an off-the-shelf aftermarket part.

Keep the intake stock for the same reason. Not to mention there's almost no gains to be made there. Yes, maybe some noise, but for what's now a classic, I think keeping it in classic condition is more important than making noise. Again, my opinion. But that looks like a nice clean example. Enjoy!
