Default 1998 Outback Swap Engine Swap Request

Hey guys, so I have a 1998 Outback with an EJ25. It has really bad rod knock and can't run without being fixed or a swap. I need to know what swaps will be completely plug and play. Doesn't matter if it's an EJ20, EJ22, or EJ25. But regardless, what would just drop in? Thanks for the help guys!

'97-99 Legacy 2.5GT, '97-99 Legacy Outback, '98 Impreza 2.5RS and '98 Forester are all the EJ25D. '96 2.5GT was also an EJ25D, but with different heads; it'll still drop into your car just fine.

You might search and/or post in the Normally Aspirated Powertrain forum, as I'm fairly certain I've seen discussions there of this sort of thing.

And discussed on the USMB ad infinitum.

Don't forget the EJ22 from a '95 Legacy w/Automatic. Has the EGR and is 99% plug and play.

OO,
Plz don't hi-jack an old thread that doesn't apply to your year...and search more as this is covered 'ad infinitum' too.

You'll need a dual-port exhaust manifold / header, swap the flexplate if AT...i'd probalby move over the Intake Manifold. too.

And if the HG aren't done on the 2.5, you'll be doing them.

All EJ-series engines and trans will bolt together....but Phase 1 vs. Phase 2 get in the way of the electronics.
