How long does the dealership usually keep the car once it arrives?

I've been seeing people on here saying that they have to wait a few days until the dealership will let them pick it up.

Would anyone worry about the dealership letting people test drive the vehicle??? Their staff driving the vehicle???

When I ordered there was a WRX that was ordered by another person and he said there is absolutely no way he would ever consider letting me into that vehicle. I would think they are pretty stiff but I guess it could change dealer to dealer. Staff may have to move the vehicle, but no one is taking it out for a joy ride.

You ordered from Clayton at Ramsey, right? Does he get annoyed that you check in with him since he says he doesn't have updates? I will probably start bugging him at the 4 week mark.

Why would you do that? In the end you may just piss him off from the calls. I would start around the week 8 mark due to the fact it seems 98% of people don't receive their cars until that date or after. Be patient...

I should have re-worded that. I usually message him on another Subaru forum that he is on. I actually called him at the 4 week mark to tell him about no wash/detail, plate holes or dealer stickers. I called him on the 6 week mark too as it was that 1/2 point on my ETA. Both times I called he was helpful and tried to see if he could get any info from his manager. Any time I message him he is very helpful too.

I usually just touch base with him to see if he had any updates every 2 weeks or so but if you're constantly hounding him about your ETA and **** I could see him getting annoyed. I would at least.

Yeah if someone is constantly calling every other day I could see it. But the way I figure...I'm spending $30,000, a very large chunk of $$$, and he is making money off my sale. I feel I should be able to check in every 2 weeks or so to see if they have an new info or if they are seeing certain orders and their dealer come in early or what not with out them getting pissed. Without me spending my money that's one less sale and commission check in their pocket.

Agreed. If I'm spending 30k, I'm not going to go for this "we'll call you when we call you" stuff. We're his customer from the time we sign the order until the time we pick up the car, he should be available to answer questions and check on orders. I'm not talking about calling him every day, but checking in every couple weeks so he remembers who I am.

Just picked up my mary kay edition wrx. I had to sell a lot of chapstick and abreva to get it!

My other WRX base in WRB was 25,660 with auto dimming mirror, wheel locks, sti short throw+bushing and all weather floor mats. They said it was the cheapest they've ever sold a WRX at their dealership which I believe, because the guy next to me paid 27,660 for the same car in black......

My car arrived at the dealership late at night , and I got a call at 9:30am the next morning it was ready for pickup.

Now I clearly stated, I wanted no wash/detail, no gas fill up (until I got there), and no dealership logo/badges/plates. All they did was inspect the car and it had 5 miles on it. still with plastic on wheels and hood, doors, etc.

Nobody should be able to test drive the car. If it has more than ~10 miles on it I can tell you someone was joy riding.

I hope this helps.

I have to turn my 2010 legacy lease in tomorrow. Back to driving a 2002 Protege 5 with a bad power steering pump, horrible clutch pedal, no radio and stripped out interior.

yup sounds good and about average, I was surprised mine was only 5. If you are seeing a "fresh off the truck" car with >12 miles I would be curious to see how it is justified.

How does a brand new STI end up with 9 miles on it? That seems like alot but I guess driving on and off the ship and trains and car haulers might add a few but 9 seems high?

I guess the dealer test drives it also?

I guess its possible that they sometimes drive the cars several miles to the car haulers from the trains or vice versa.

The people that do this for a living do it all day long and could care less what kind of car they are driving so its not like they are going to joyride.

Most dealerships have a test drive by the mechanic as the final step in the PDI or pre-delivery inspection. I know we were supposed to take the new cats up to 55mph and make sure they handled ok without any freaks or anything weird and it was 5 miles round trip to the nearest street that was 55 mph.

I had 6.3 miles on my WRX when I picked it up, it had full tank, was about 5 when it was delivered.

I'm not sure if Subaru does it or not but I wouldn't be surprised if some cars had up to 100 miles on them off the truck. Some regulations here require us to drive a certain percentage of vehicles 25 miles or more.

They most likely do a test run at the factory around some sort of track to make sure everything works. I know other manufacturers do this and assume Subaru is the same. For all you break-in nuts I'm sure they cross 4k RPM during that run as well.

I had 6 miles on mine. Back in 2006 when I got my G35 it was right off the truck as well and it had about 5 miles on it.

Congrats to those who picked theirs up this week! I just found out yesterday that my Salesman moved to a different Subaru Dealership. So I'm gonna head into my Dealership & talk to the General Manager and find out who he can assign to me. So that way I have someone who could update me on VIN & arrival dates.

Yeah got a pretty good deal on mine from Puente Hills Subaru here in SoCal. Picked it up yesterday for $25359 plus tax and Lic. It came with all weather mats, self dimming Homelink rear view mirror and the short shifter. They tried to up sell me on the LoJack and the extended warranty but overall it was pretty quick and painless! Loving my new WRX!
