So I bought this STi in June of 2016. I have had many Subaru’s before this one to include: 07 Impreza 2.5i; 06 wrx; 08 wrx hatch; and an 11 wrx hatch. My dream had always been to own a limited widebody STi. When I could afford one I jumped on the opportunity and picked up this gem. She was bone stock with only 30k miles on her with only 1 owner at the time of purchase. It of course didn’t take long for me to start modding away. I’ll keep it short and sweet and post up the mods that are on the car as of now.

Engine/performance mods
-aem intake
-Perrin turbo inlet

In September of 2018 I bought a new daily with every intention of beefing up my suspension with a good set of wheels and tires to prepare the STi for the track. On the way home from picking up my new daily, the STi spun a rod bearing.

After contacting a few shops, starting with IAG since I have been a long time customer there. A couple other shops I spoke to were agile performance and element to name a few. I finally decided to go with Andrewtech in Gaithersburg Md for my build. They beat IAG’s price by a bit and a much quicker turn around time. My STi will be dropped off to them on May 16th to get a built engine put in her. Looking to have her back in June some time.

The new build will consist of the following:
-new v3 closed deck from outfront
-Manley platinum series forged pistons
-Manley I-beam turbo tuff rods
-acl main and rod bearings
-new nitrate treated STi crank
-killer b ultimate oil pick up
-killer b oil pan and baffle
-new STi oil pump
-full super tech valvetrain
-kelford 272 cams
-decking the heads
-arp 1/2 inch head studs
-act hd Street clutch kit
-smy dual gauge cluster
-aem uego AFR gauge
-aem oil pressure gauge
-secondary air pump delete with Andrewtech block off plates.

Now, I won’t have the money to do the turbo kit and everything else at the same time. So as of now it will just be the long block with the stock turbo and the rest of my setup being the same as it was before. Over the next year I will be compiling parts for the rest of the build. As of right now I will be adding the following this time next year.
-ETS rotated turbo kit
-speed density
-Garrett gtx3576r gen 2
-ETS fmic
-cobb flex fueling package
-id1700cc injectors
-Visconti fuel basket with walbro 485lph pump

Goal of 550whp on e85.

Still a long road ahead for this build and I’m sure some things will change. But I just can’t wait to have her running and be able to drive it again!

That’s wild, good timing on picking up that daily driver LOL!

With that motor, the 3576 and E85, your going to have an excellent combination of responsiveness/power/reliability. Good choice of parts, looks legit to me.

You aren’t kidding. What are the odds of my STi blowing up on the very day I buy another car. If I didn’t have dumb luck I wouldn’t have any at all!

STi got dropped off safe and sound at Andrewtech yesterday. As of today they have the motor pulled.

Well some good and of course bad news! What would a Subaru build thread be without a splash of bad news!?!?

I was out of town the other day and stopped by Andrewtech to check out the process. Well, from the bearing spinning while the car was driving, the bearing material made it to the turbo. Thus resulting in my stock vf48 being toast!

Also while tearing down the heads they noticed that my valves were sinking in a bit, and needed new valve guides. Luckily the valves themselves were just fine and able to be reused.

The short block is done and looks incredible! The guys at Andrewtech took care of me and upgraded me to the version 4 closed deck from outfront. Free of charge!!! Can’t talk highly enough about the guys there. They have worked through the few hiccups they have encountered and expected with a bearing being spun to the severity mine was. They are currently sourcing me a used vf48 to throw on it until it comes time for my rotated turbo set up.

The heads should done early this coming week and everything should start getting buttoned up. I did take a couple pics of the new valvetrain and cams in the boxes while I was there. I’ll post them up later!
