Angry Bown head gaskets, warped heads and a piston melted to the cylinder wall!!!!????

Well, I still need the figure out what to do. I called the dealership and they told me it was covered, but I have to take my car down to them which is 80 miles away. They said that they had to make sure it was really covered under warranty. I guess they just want to make sure I didn't do anything to it to make my engine do this. Any suggestions or help that I might be able to use to make sure it's under waranty still?? So far I have a homemade intake that has been working for months now and a muffler. Thanks.

And you wonder why Subaru is so suspicious of so-called "stock" vehicles with warranty claims??? All you are doing is hurting someone with a legitimate problem. You broke it. You pay. :monkey:

So, your saying that if I buy a defective Subaru and it breaks, it's my fault for buying the Subaru? Right?

I think what he is saying, is the same things other people have said. If you modify the car beyond factory, you need to be ready for the potential consequences of the modifications. The thing to remember, when you drive the car off the lot, that is what Subaru in warranting, the stock car. When you add items, in your case homemade intake, exhaust/muffler, that is not what Subaru intended for the vehicle and cannot warrant the possible issues that may cause.
The main thing here is that Subaru will ultimately have to show that these items caused the problem, but this may take a while and you either have to pay to fix the car yourself, of not drive the car to cause further damage the will then not be covered.

Wow... did just say that?

No, not at all. I was commenting on the "advice" you got about unbolting all your mods prior to bringing the car to the dealer for inspection. If you are so certain your mods didn't cause your problem, then why take them off? A good dealer tech will look for the cause of the problem. If you melted a piston, it really doesn't make much sense to put a new short block in without finding out what caused the meltdown to begin with. If a problem is discovered in your homemade intake, then you SHOULD be responsible for the damage it caused.

I know this is a long time from when it happened, but here is the result.

When I started driving on the highway, I noticed a loud "ping" noise after a minivan sped past me. After about an hour of driving on the highway I niticed that my heat had stopped working. I checked the heat settings then looked at my vehicle temp guage and noticed it was fully pegged in the red. I released the gas and all of the sudden the car jerked and a massive cloud of white smoke poured out the tail pipe followed by a huge black cloud eventuially. I got pulled over and then called for help.

After the dust settled, I found out that the minivan may have most likely kicked a piece of metal up off the road and into my radiator. SoA was greatful enough to rebuild any damaged parts of the engine, with installation, for free except the radiator. The insurance company covered the radiator, but seeing as I had a $500 deductable, I ended up paying for that.

I was happy in the end and now the car is screwed up again after getting it hydrolocked. Pulled the plugs and it still won't turn over. Even tried wrenching a little on the crank...

Thanks for reading.

And you're assuming the intake or a damn muffler "broke it".

Because many many dealers will look to anything to deny your claim, whether it realistically caused a problem or not.
